Alot of folx still wish they could have found an Asian Actress for this one I can understand it I'm kind of ambivalent about it . . . .. still . . .. anime to live action has not worked well Dragon Ball Evolution or whatever that crap has completely soured me on it Rocket River
I saw this back in the 90s, but I don't remember a thing about it. Same with Ninja Scroll, though I recently rewatched it and wasn't that impressed.
Just make a homage to Ghost in the shell, you know? Instead of remaking the damn thing and pissing of the anime nerds. Everyone will be happy, right?
There's some room for Makoto being a Caucasian droid, but I'd rather the setting take place in a Western country rather than having the movie play on Yellow Fever fantasies by a racist Hollywood. I still think Tilda Swinson on chemo in Dr. Strange takes the cake. I dunno, if the reviews are good, I'll watch it. If not, I'll stream it...
It's a great show if you like geo-political suspense mixed with deep philosophical and social commentary. As it sounds, each season takes a bit of patience to jump in, but there's a payoff. The series definitely shaped my thoughts on the world growing up, and Ray Kurzweil thinks that setting is the likely singularity we're heading towards.
I've heard a lot of good things about it, but judging by what you're saying I'll give the first episode a go tonight. (Also, shout out to this awesome alert feature)
IMO, the cast and setting wouldn't matter if they took the themes of the original work and tripped out in a Western sense. Those themes would be feelings of overwhelming institutional growth and social decay, the lost sense of individuality as a cell in a larger organ, and how technology becomes the overriding factor in experience, perception and life/death/existence. The spiritual element that goes unmentioned in all of it is pretty deep, such as what happens if only a part of you dies and the rest can conceivably last until the sun explodes.... Something pretty hard to pull off in the Box Office, let alone a licensed work.
I thought the trailer looked fantastic, really like how they captured the atheistic of the movie....never saw the show....
