Me and my cousin were having this discussion, and we came to the conclusion of Donald Trump.

This isn't about whether you like them or think they have value to society. Simply if you polled all 7 billion people and asked if you recognized the name, picture, and what they are known for.

The huge demographic number of India and China had to be taken into account. I don't think any Indian is famous enough in the west. The pope as an entity would be well known but not the person. We thought about famous Chinese people, Jackie Chan is the best option we could come up with. Don't think Yao is well known enough outside basketball circles in the west.

Did we forget somebody, is some other celebrity as universally known. Michael Jordan was the next best guess for us given he's been on top of the world for longer and Trump was niche famous outside the US until he became president.

Donald trump is likely right because he was on th news every 3 seconds.

After that Jackie Chan, Ronaldo, maybe the Rock?

It’s probably the pope as long as your answer can just be “the pope” and not specifically “Pope Francis.”

If youre polling as a whole, trump seems like the correct answer but if were just polling women, deckard would be the only answer- hes spanned the globe and has broken many hearts.

Messi and Ronaldo have to be up there.

    So does Obama.

Also, Most Famous and Most Well-known are different. I bet Taylor Swift has more searches than most but there is probably no street in the world where Obama could walk without drawing a crowd.

I’m trying to not be American-centric and think about the billions of people who aren’t locked into a news cycle, who are too poor or ambivalent to give a **** about Western politics or celebrities. That leaves a massive group of people who probably do care about the best players in the most popular sport on the planet.

I would agree that it's Trump. He was a relentless self-promoter and being the President just gave his self-promotion a mega joules boost.

The US Presidency carries a lot of weight and is recognizable around the World. Back when Obama was President I went to a bar called O'Bama's in Singapore and saw a restaurant called "Obama" in Hanoi. Both with a picture of the President having a beer. I saw music videos in the PRC with a Chinese actor playing Obama in blackface.

Since Trump was President have seen ads and parodies of him in several countries. In Taiwan saw a store with a cartoon Trump saying they have "Biggly Deals". In some countries it seems like many have a stronger opinion about Trump than they do their own leaders.

Elon Musk, or even Bill Gates considering his philanthropic efforts in Africa with his foundation. So his name might be most recognized considering how long he has been prominent in computers and international business.
