Here is Monitor's top HSers: Eddie Griffin 6-9 225 PF Philadelphia (PA) Roman Catholic (commited to SETON HALL) Griffin is a versatile player who can play both forward spots. He is an outstanding athlete with great leaping ability. Griffin has the ability to play both inside and outside. He runs the floor extremely well and has a wide variety of offensive moves. He needs to get stronger, but has unlimited potential. He signed with Seton Hall along with buddies, Andre Barrett and Marcus Toney-El. Griffin will play at the McDonald's All-American game on the 29th and he was expected to play in the Nike Hoop Summit before pulling out of the event. He will play at the Roundball Classic in Raleigh, North Carolina on April 10th. He averaged 27 points, 13 rebounds and six blocked shots per game. Griffin is often compared to Tim Duncan Gerald Wallace 6-7 210 SF Childersburg (AL) High (commited to ALABAMA) Wallace was a relatively unknown player before emerging as perhaps the top prep in the country with his strong play in the spring and at the adidas camp in July. He is an outstanding athlete with great leaping ability. He will play at the McDonald's All-American game on the 29th and he was expected to play in the Nike Hoop Summit before recently withdrawing from the event. He will also play at the Roundball Classic in Raleigh, North Carolina on April 10th. Wallace is an outstanding athlete who has been compared to Dominque Willkins. Highly-respected talent evaluator Brick Oettinger of Prep Stars Recruiter's Handbook said that Wallace 'has at least as much potential as any high school small forward we've ever seen, and that covers a span of 40 years.' He needs to continue to get stronger and improved his outside shot. Wallace signed with the local Crimson Tide and averaged 29.0 points and 15.4 rebounds per game. Darius Miles 6-9 190 SF East St. Louis (IL) Lincoln (commited to ST. JOHN'S) Miles is an athletic forward who is long and lean. His frame reminds some observers of Kevin Garnett and Marcus Camby. He is one of the most athletic players in the Class of 2000 with excellent quickness and explosiveness. He is a very good rebounder and ballhandler. Miles has a quick first step and is effective around the basket, due to his quickness. He is a very good defender who can block shots and he has a long wing-span. He is a versatile player who needs to play harder at times. He signed with St. John's in the early signing period along with buddy Omar Cook, giving the red Storm, the top recruiting class in the country. However, grade concerns could force him to turn pro early. Miles averaged 19 points and 14 rebounds per game. He will play in the McDonald's All-American Game, Nike Hoop Summit and Roundball Classic. DeShawn Stevenson 6-6 210 SG Fresno (CA) Washington Union (commited to KANSAS) Stevenson is a versatile player with good scoring ability and athleticism. He has a pro body and a scorer's mentality. He is a good ballhandler and has excellent shooting range. His supporting cast was not that strong and he was forced to carry too much of the load and sometimes forced bad shots. He needs to improve his shot selection, but he has a big upside. He won the Slam-Dunk championship before the McDonald's game. He will play in the McDonald's All-American game and the Roundball Classic. Stevenson averaged 30.4 points, 9.7 rebounds and 6.2 assists per game and signed with Kansas in the early signing period. Alton Ford 6-9 260 PF Houston (TX) Milby (commited to HOUSTON) Ford is a strong inside presence and is a good athlete. He reportedly runs a 4.5 40 and has bench pressed 395 pounds. He has been compared physically to Karl Malone. Ford has good low post moves and has the ability to step out and hit a three-point shot. He signed with hometown Houston in the early signing period, but may elect to enter the draft due to questions about his academics. Ford averaged 23.3 points and 15.3 rebounds per game. He will play in the McDonald's All-American game and the Roundball Classic. Jerome Harper 6-5 190 SG Columbia (SC) Keenan UNDECIDED Harper is an outstanding athlete who can play both guard spots and small forward. He is an excellent finisher who has good range on his outside shot. Harper is a solid ballhandler and he possesses a good cross-over dribble. Harper has changed schools three times in the past year and there are concerns about his academics. He signed with Cincinnati in the early signing period, but the Bearcats dropped him recently after he was arrested on an assault charge. The charges were later dropped after it was determined that he was defending his aunt from a boyfriend. However, he will likely either attend junior college or explore the draft. He averaged 20.1 points, 8.1 rebounds, 7.5 assists and 3.2 steals a game and led his team to a state title. Harper, whose nickname is Buddy, will play in the McDonald's All-American game and the Roundball Classic.
