The Price, Sale and Eovaldi contracts... with little to no farm, and questions about the ability to keep Betts (or even afford his arbitration raise) was enough to put his job in jeopardy. He did help get them a championship... but now he's expendable since he's not the type of GM that can salvage a team that's already peaked. Meanwhile, every team wants the next Luhnow... somebody who can rebuild, reload, and go for the title when needed.
Yep, even a World Series Ring doesn't save him from a budget nightmare. Basically, it looks like owner is unhappy that he's spending 4 times as much as the Rays, nearly 10 wins behind the Rays, Rays have a stocked farm system, and basically locked into a roster for next three years that is going to miss playoffs this year.
But in the end... that owner did win a title, while the Rays are not guaranteed anything. I think the decision to extend Sale this year and re-sign Eovaldi can be looked at as the biggest issues. How much of that was being jaded by just winning the World Series? Sale had already started having some injury concerns last year... and Eovaldi was used in a way that we all half-expected the Red Sox to make his arm fall off in the playoffs, but it was felt the Red Sox wouldn't try to re-sign him so who cares, right? Really curious to see how this impacts their handling of Betts. Normally, offering an extension to him should be a no-brainer... especially for a big market team... but they literally may be thinking about his affordability.
I don't know why but it's still hard to believe the Giants won 3 World Series in the last decade. I guess because everything in between has been so inept. You'd think it would be considered some kind of dynasty (winning 3 titles over 5 years) but it's not.
The baseball Giants are similar to the football Giants. Either 1) win the championship or 2) don't make the playoffs
Despite it being the yankees... this is such a cool video. Especially like the huge Gem single edge razor blade ad... I still use two Gem single edge razors.
