Mike Hampton agreed to an eight-year contract worth more than $105 million with the Colorado Rockies, the Rocky Mountain News reported Friday. The deal is contingent upon Hampton passing a physical examination, which was not expected to be a problem. The deal reportedly includes an option on a ninth year. I'm so happy for Mike... so noble he said it wasn't about the money but that he wanted to play in a warm-climate city. So he picked the tropical paradise of Denver.... and their $105 million dollars. ------------------ NOTHING BUT .NET CLUTCHCITY.NET
That means they've picked up both Hampy and Neagle, right? You'd think that pitchers had learned their lessons, after Kile. ------------------ I don't want to achieve immortality through my work... I want to achieve immortality by not dying. - Woody Allen
He and Neagle will have ERA's over 5. Hampton said he wanted to win. Since when do the Rockies have a good team? Nothing could make me happier. Hampton will get a taste of what DK did (not that I'm rooting against him), and the Cards don't get stronger. Also, the Mets basically gave us Dotel and Cedeno to rent Hampton for a year. Derek bEll makes the deal even more lopsided now. ------------------ "I am" is reportedly the shortest sentence in the English language. Could it be that "I do" is the longest sentence ?
I actually thing Hampton can exist there more easily than Kile. Kile relies on a big hook, Hampton on sinkers and cut fastballs. Hampton's stuff is less likely to deteriorate in the thin air. His ERA will still go up some though.... What I wonder about is, if he was serious about being on a contender, why he did not stay with the mets or consider the Cards? ------------------
Baseball has become a crock. I love the game, but it's not even fun to watch anymore from a competitive standpoint. Hampton's signing along with Nagle's will obviously make for a better Rockies team. The dollars rule, though, in today's game. So it's no mystery as to who'll be playing in the postseason. Good luck to Hampton and all of his $. ------------------ www.dsscake.com
Randy Johnson would do well in Denver. Hampy is going to get hurt there. Money talks, bull$hit walks....right into the Mile High city. ------------------ Five to one baby, one in five...no one here gets, out alive.

Not for long. Boston will sign Ramirez this weekend to the largest contract in history. ------------------ When we tire of well-worn ways, we seek for new. This restless craving in the souls of men spurs them to climb, and to seek the mountain view. -- Ella Wheeler Wilcox
From here on out each contract signing making headlines will be the largest in MLB history. ------------------ www.dsscake.com
And then someone will sign A-Rod to an even larger contract. ------------------ Houston Sports Board The Anti-Bud Adams Page
I believe I read where Hampton is 4-1 lifetime at Coors field but his ERA is over 6.00. ------------------
I read somewhere that baseball won't last past 2003...or maybe I just dreamt that. Oh well. ------------------ It doesn't matter if I have a signature!
It's ironic that this is the second 'stros pitcher to leave for the cold, hard reality of Coors Field. Hampy has probably traded in his career for the money, but maybe not. His ERA will most definately be up, and he may fare as well as Kile. However, Hampton is a ground ball pitcher, and so he won't be lit up as badly as others. He's probably the best pitcher for the Rockies, just the Rockies aren't the best place for him. Hampton will be 15 - 8 and 4.56 ERA . . . hehe, if that's what you can expect from a groundball pitcher, imagine how badly pop-fly Lima would get lit up there 0-30 and 12.39 ERA, hehehe
