#1 reason why you don't worry about paying salaries, ever, Jordan is going to sell for 1.5 billion. 757% return. Salaries are a puddle in the big picture.
The Hornets were a good team when Jordan owned them when he played for the Bulls. Besides then, nope.
MJ gonna go down in history as one of the worst talent evaluators ever. He is as bad at spotting talent as he is great at playing bball. Even if you disregard the busts he picked as Wizards GM, the amount of busts the Bobcats/Hornets have accumulated is also pretty staggering. Even recently they drafted James Bougknight and somehow chose Mark Williams over Jalen Duren (wtf?!)
The value of that (and all) franchises have skyrocketed since he bought it, so despite him being an absolute dog s**t owner he's gonna make a killing if he does sale. Even when he loses he wins.
Whats the point of that though? He is already a multi billionaire and prints money from nike every year. I'd think st their level money is just a number since they have more than they'd ever spend, thats why these owners hold their teams even if they never win anything and only sell them when they're old and about to die etc.
Jordan may not be as rich as you think. He's just not very liquid. The majority of his networth is tied to the value of the Hornets organization and perceived value of the Jordan Brand, usually a large multiple of revenue. The Hornets will probably hold value no matter what but Jordan Brand value could disappear quickly with a PR mishap or even just changes in fashion. He's not someone that owns a product everyone uses or needs. He has to time his exits.
Watch this be a wink-wink move to get MJ paid big with Wemby driving the price of the team sky high. NBA rig Wemby to Charlotte confirmed. MJ seems uninterested in the current NBA. Between running Jordan brand, and his 23XI Nascar crew for bidness, and spending all his free time golfing and fishing, i can imagine how the NBA in it's current state is a snooze fest and waste of time for him. Or maybe he takes his massive pay day and tries to buy the Bulls? Nah Jerry wont sell even to Mike for a ridiculous offer, and Mike won't live permanently in Chicago again. He likes his privacy and quiet life in NC by the water and warm weather.
