This thread is strange… but… https://omny.fm/shows/duncd-on-bask...il-game-6-mia-offseason-outlook-evan-mobley-s I certainly thought a couple months ago, because of limited research, he was uniquely tall/long. He is definitely tall/long, but not necessarily uniquely so in the NBA. for example Capela apparently measured a 9’5 standing reach https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.nba.com/amp/celtics/draft/profile-capela
The whispers were that his wingspan is in the 7’5”-7’6” range now. What makes him unique (or very rare) is the fact he is so fluid, very laterally quick, a well above average explosive athlete and has some aptitude to put the ball on the floor. It is very rare to find a man his size that has that package. The question really comes down to whether you believe he will be able to handle 4/5’s inside (right now he is bumped too easy) OR if he will improve his shooting to the point where he can play the 3/4/5 and his lack of physicality won’t matter much. He has a very strong set of instincts, especially on the defensive side of the ball. He naturally knows where to be and when to contest, when to rotate and when to not extend too much. Those are things that can be improved somewhat, but are for the most part crucial for a player if they are ever to be a real plus on the defensive side of the court. On offense he sees the court very well, he knows where his teammates are and will pass to players he cannot even see. He also is not afraid to drive to the hole or afraid of contact. He has solid mechanics as a shooter but his efficiency in college wasn’t great. A lot of scouts think he will at a minimum he a positive outside shooter. There is some debate about whether he is a going to be a solid perimeter shooter or a natural elite one. I tend to think he will be good but not great. As a rebounder, he has good instincts but can be pushed out for key rebounds because of his high center of gravity and lack of size. That will improve in time (as it has for Capela) but could be an issue for a few years. So you add it all together and he should be highly skilled and highly productive. The question is will he be a difference maker or will he be more like KAT, and be a good but not great player. I personally think if Mobley will be a difference maker, it will be because he becomes an elite defender. He will score at least 15-20 a night with his skill set and talent… but can he anchor a defense? I think that’s the question.
