This day is hard for me for another reason. Three years ago one of my best friends died unexpectedly. This was someone who was closer than many in my own family and helped me get through some difficult times. I was already feeling her loss last night. It’s going to be hard getting through the day.
Thanks. My friend grew up in New England and was a die hard Red Sox, Patriots and Bruins fan. We used to watch the Red Sox Astros games together and talk friendly trash to each other about them. We would also catch when either the Red Sox or Astros would play the Twins at Target Center. We had talked about during the pandemic going to see games at Fenway and Minute Maid Park but that never happened. The three times a year I miss her most are during the baseball playoffs especially when the Stros are playing the Red Sox, her birthday as she loved to celebrate it and today when she died. What makes it worse was that she had been in the hospital and was released on 2/13. We all thought that she was getting better only to suddenly collapse at home and go very quickly.
I’m not a fan even for when you aren’t single. As a person who has always paid special attention to my ladies, and having a specific day imposed on me irks. On the other hand, if you are single and aren't trying to hook up today with some sad and lonely women, you're missing a golden opportunity.
It's no picnic for the married guys either. Especially when your anniversary is 2 days later. #StressfulWeek
Did a big show of stuff last year. Got my wife a stuffed animal, balloon, chocolates, made a great dinner and desert. After the food, I told her there wasn't another, "big," gift incoming. Her reply? "That's ok; I've learned not to expect too much from you." What did she give me, you ask? Just kidding. You didn't ask that. You know I didn't get anything. So this year, I'm just cooking a better-than-normal dinner, and that's it.
I've found that doing a frequentish, random "Happy Lady Day" earns you many more points than trying to do some fancy stuff only on the prescribed days (birthday/anniversary/VDay)
We’re going to Carnegie Hall to watch Cat Power perform Dylan’s 1966 Royal Albert Hall concert. Not so bad…
glad i'm forever alone for the international women's day. i do buy myself some chocolates on sale tho.
