I don't think this has anything to do with LeBron. It's about Magic being a wimp.

he's been blackballed by the league. he's desperately wanted to be an assistant coach. maybe he's been too candid about the legitimacy of the nba, maybe he's rubbed some people the wrong way, maybe it's b/c of his religion.. but it's a mystery why no team's taken him on

The first time Magic stepped away I cried. I thought it was a death sentence for him.

In no way, EVER, should anybody feel bad for lebron. Hes wrecked more franchises than david stern and makes way too much money for being a superstar that cant lead or win without more superstars.

I'm surprised this thread is so long already.

I, for one, couldn't care less. The Lakers aren't even close to the center of the NBA universe. They're barely the center of the LA-NBA universe, and unless they turn it around will become less and less so in that.

Listening to magic talk, it's relief. That tells me he didn't like the work. And that's ok. I suspect 6 months in he got tired of the meetings, phone calls, and labor relations. Shiot, who doesn't. But he has the means to just leave it. That's all this was. It wasn't fun. It wasn't creative. For example, going to meet with LeBron shouldn't be stressful. He was trying to learn how to have that kind of meeting on the fly and have it go perfectly, and that's the first sign of too much inexperience.

As far as the Lakers, they got LeBron too late. They need 3 stars. Even adding a star on a different timeline, with a cast and crew on a different timeline, doesn't add up. LeBron wasn't the right fit.

Kobe will run into the same problem. I see the exact same qualities in him that Magic had, although obviously different personalities. He wants to be creative, and that's not the day in and day out work to be done.

As far as the press conference, it best to control the story yourself. So I don't mind that. But again, he just wanted out of that life. So this was just the pressure valve releasing rather than waiting for it to happen. And good for him. He knew it wasn't right for him. It's good timing though, because like I said, there was no way it was going to work with LeBron in 2 years. That team needed 5 years and LeBron needs a 1 year plan.

Though if Magic really is leaving because he can't keep his hands off of the staff, hiring Kobe is a hilarious way to try to address that problem

What would be a great way to turn it around in one of the NBA's most profitable markets, would be for the Lakers to hit on some great young talent. Like Zion, for instance.

Though if the Lakers got the magic envelope then, you might as well call the league wrestling-lite, and be done with it.

    You should care.
Magic is gone and Grunfeld is gone. Vlade has become smarter and the Suns and Pelicans are after new GMs.
There aren't many idiots remaining anymore.
We need idiots as GMs and POBOs so Morey can take advantage of them.
