There are probably several reasons that he's looked "off" so much of this season, with many of them mentioned here. I certainly agree with your post. -
His contract really isn't that bad, it's middle of the road money for a starting power forward at $8.5 million. Only players on rookie contracts are significantly better deals for their production. NBA Power Forwards: Hawks: Josh Smith $12 million Celtics: Kevin Garnett $21.2 million Cavs: Antawn Jamison $15 million Bobcats: Tyrus Thomas $7.3 million / Boris Diaw $9 million Bulls: Carlos Boozer $13.5 million Mavericks: Dirk Nowitzki $19 million Nuggets: AL Harrington $6.2 million Pistons: Jason Maxiell $5 million/ Charlie Villanueva $7.5 million Warriors: David Lee $11.6 million Pacers: David West $10 million Clippers: Blake Griffin $5.7 million Lakers: Pau Gasol $18.7 million Grizzlies: Zach Randolph $15.2 Million Heat: Chris Bosh $16 million Bucks: Drew Gooden $6.2 million Timberwolves: Kevin Love $4.6 million Nets: Kris Humphries $8 million Hornets: Carl Landry $8.5 million Knicks: Amare Stoudemire $18.2 million Thunder: Serge Ibaka $1.2 million Magic: Ryan Anderson $2.2 million / Glen Davis $6.3 million 76ers: Elton Brand $17 million Suns: Jared Dudley $4.2 million Blazers: LaMarcus Aldridge $12.8 million Kings: DeMarcus Cousins $3.6 million Spurs: DeJuan Blair $986,000 Raptors: Amir Johnson $5.5 million Jazz: Paul Millsap $8.1 million
I think he was just doing the veteran thing and laying back until second half of the season for the stretch run. Savvy vet. move considering the schedule and his age.
Glad he's still on board. With his style of play, he may be productive for another decade. It's PPat I'm worried about-- seems like he still doesn't have his legs back. If he comes around, we are decently two-deep at every position. Speaking of which, can anyone update us on Kyle's diagnosis and condition?
thanks to the helping hand from Camby. Scola will be more productive in the rest of season playing at his natural 4 position.
I don't think Luis's production will improve. Camby has a better passing game so that might help lower Luis's TOs if they're on the court together. As you noted the benefit is mostly keeping him away from playing C. Who the Rockets and Luis could use is a guy who's a massive threat under the rim.
Scola benefits immensely having Dally at the center and Parsons at the SF. You look a lot better on defense when you know you have your back covered and your mistakes erased. Bud should benefit as well playing with Camby and PPat. God I love it when the rotations make sense. Scola at center made absolutely no sense at all.
I was wrong about Scola getting traded. I'll own up to that. He still has a lot to contribute to the Rockets, but my fear remains. By next year he will be a liability and a contract that is difficult to dump.
What?? A Scola thread!!! I thought I was the only Scola fan out there! He's hands down a pro. Off and on the court. More than glad to have him here. It might be his last season here though. All I hope for from this new team of ours is a successful playoff run. Whatever happens after that happens.
Exactly, apart from his stats (now coming back to normal after the recovery is near to completed), apart from his intangibles (BB IQ, or why you think Adelman or McHale kept him for so many minutes, even when he wasn't socring heavily?)...... ....His DESIRE to win, his commitment. I remember starters or bench players on current Rocket's roster, LOLing and chilling even during a game the team was losing, like if they didn't care the fate of the team. Scola is the total opposite, recently, even after a game he scored 30 pts he was totally destroyed because the team lost. He really puts the fate of the team FAR AHEAD his personal stats, and he always was that way, in Europe, as mega-superstar, he went to bench without complaining when the coach needed him to do it, and he still gave 100% coming off the bench several games.
He's basically Carlos Boozer at half the price. The contract might not be ideal, but it's far from crazy.
HOLLER @ SCOLA4.COM EVERYTHING YOU NEED AND WANT TO KNOW ABOUT LUIS SCOLA! LUIFA QUOTED "The best thing about the trade it´s that I´m not the oldest anymore! Great aditions to fight for a spot in the play offs,"
I appreciate that Deck - Yeah, when the time DOES come, it's going to be tough for us to say adios to the "Ice Cream Man".
