Anyone know how to fix it!? I'm only 22, but my back can tighten up like crazy from time to time. I feel like T-Mac when I play basketball sometimes. It just kills my flexibility. I'm a tall guy, used to very overweight, and I have pulled a muscle in my back before. I sort of link my back problems to that. I just get tightness, and it's a constant problem. Any stretches I could try? Massages? Acupuncture? I'll try anthing, because I'm getting sick of it. And before you direct me to Google, I am researching. I just figured I'd ask some of you here.
I had the same issue in HS. Start doing "The Flying Superman" stretch every morning/night (look it up online). You won't notice immediate results, but give it around 2 weeks. A back specialist recommended it to me, and it worked wonders.
Stretch your hamstrings regularly. Do not sit/lay around, be active. Stretch your hamstrings regularly. Take a yoga class (seriously, if you want to know how to stretch, outside of the regular stuff you hopefully learned in gym class). Smoke a bowl. Do not sit/lay around, be active. Repeat as necessary.
You can do good mornings or single leg deadlifts to help you strengthen your lower back. These are done with low low weight due to high risk injury
if it's what i'm thinking it's not a stretch, at least not for your back. Not sure if you knew that and failed to mention it. More than likely your back is weak...it's tight because the muscle seizes up because the body knows it's not strong enough to pull you back up if you bend down too far, especially with a load....so it tightens up to keep your range of motion limited and avoid injury. You probably pulled it by forcing a stretch when it was tight. i dont think stretching your hams is the sure thing to do like someone else suggested...if your back is tight that means it may be pulling your hip upward, which means your hams are already being pulled/stretched. Lookt at your posture and try to evalute what's wrong with it and act accordingly, start by looking at your hip position. If possible, go to a massage therapist who's got alot of experience dealing with body aligment and posture.
The best answer but hardest to carry out is stretching and weight training. Will totally fix whatever "problems" you have at age 22.
I've had mild to moderate back pain for awhile and some things I have done that have helped me alot. 1. Weightloss - I am not carrying around an extra 80 lbs 2. Yoga - great for stretching out various parts of your body (including back) but it is helping me build core strength (back/abs and the various smaller muscles that support them). 3. Firmer bed - I have wood slats under my mattress to provide extra support. Not sure what exactly helped or when I stopped feeling pain but I feel great now.. so some stuff to try. Good Luck.
Had the same problem after a couple hours of basketball. The pain in my lower back was really painful I was about 40 lbs over weight though so I thought it was because of the extra weight. I was already working out to get back in shape so I just started doing core exercises with my normal workout routine. I'm not a personal trainer or anything but the Plank Exercises strengthened my core muscles that include my lower back muscles. After a while didn't have the pain anymore. I remember when Tmac went to Chicago to train his trainer said he couldn't hold a plank for more than a couple seconds and that the reason for some of his back problems was because his core muscles were weak.
Anyone ever try those see-saw lookin tables that lets you hang upside down? I've always wanted to try them.
I have back problem and from my experience, it is actually the muscles around your belt (back and stomach) that need exercise. There are many but the 2 that I find easiest and effective are: 1) Crunches. You don't even have to sit up, just lie on your back, fold your knees but still have the feet flat on the ground, head off the ground and tighten your stomach muscles, relax, do it again. 2) Lie flat on your stomach and lift the front half of your body off the ground for a number of seconds, relax, do it again. (We've seen Barkley do this courtside when he had back problem) When I do these in the morning before I get up from bed, I feel wonderful. When I don't, my back tightens up during the day.
