Intelligence. Passion. Heart. Hustle. Sometimes he is easy to overlook (stats are never eye-popping), but to me his value to this team is priceless.
My favorite player in this team. He does everything many players don't like to do. One of the best defensive players in the world.
Definitely the most under-appreciated player on the team. He does so many of the things that don't show up in the box score. His attitude is really starting to rub off on the other players and he is a great example and role model for our rookies. And he's been unconscious from the 3 point line the past few games.
He's been more agressive. That's been the difference. He used to just spot up for those corner 3's, but now he's also taking them from the top of the key. He's also posting up and shooting that left-handed hook which is a surprisingly reliable move.
He's no Rudy Gay. He's no Thabo Sefolosha, either. I like Battier as a player even though he came at a high price.
The ultimate professional. Never complains, just puts his head down and does the job. Guys like him really help set the character of the team. The Rockets are lucky to have him.
Liked the trade then, LOVE it now. Shane Battier is the unsung hero of this team.... Imagine if Tmac had to guard the other team's best perimeter player.....(Shudder). DD
yea..i love the catch and quick release on the corner 3's he seems to get once or twice a game at big moments..mr intangible, he's just one of those guys u find annoying if hes on another team, but love when hes on your side
If we ever win a championship with him, I hope the Rockets will retire his number when he's done playing. He might not have the stats that all of those players on the roof has, but he is every bit as important.
He WAS appreciated by all fans during the good runs, and most fans during the bad runs. Only those that still thinks Rudy Gay would turn out better than Battier dislikes him.
He was drinking a Bud Light on Sat night when I met him. I sure appreciate his handshake and smile. :-D
i really don't think Shane's disliked ... well, its not a common sentiment anyway. i still think we overpaid fer him but i like him fine, so kudos to Shane! is this really his first dedicated 'preciation thread?
I think this is clearly his best season as a Rocket. He's hitting the spot-up 3 more consistently and seems to make a key, defensive play every game.
he's hitting .392 this year which exactly matches his career average. 06-07 he hit .421 + 3 better years with the teddy bears. team success is the best backdrop for players.
