Official SXSW 2012 Lineup released yesterday. http://consequenceofsound.net/2012/01/south-by-southwest-2012-reveals-schedule/ "Showcase" Lineup: http://festival-outlook.consequenceofsound.net/fests/view/675/south-by-southwest Bands that stand out to me: Best Coast Youth Lagoon Here We Go Magic Delta Spirit White Rabbits Tennis M. Ward Miike Snow Tv Torso Anybody planning of going? Any recommendations?
I will be at Delta Spirit wherever they play. It will be their first show for the new album out 3/13. My recommendation is to go during the day. I had a blast last year wandering downtown during the daytime. Free shows and, if you're lucky, free beer.
Official showcases suck. The wristbands are expensive, the places are usually packed, and they usually have a long line. Then, once you get inside, it's wall-to-wall press and hipsters. I've gone to the past 3 SXSW's, and I've only gone to unofficial shows. I've had a ton of fun every time I've gone. I've seen some of my favorite bands play in the backyards of friends.
Yeah I definently reccommend to anybody considering going that you DO NOT buy a wristband. Hundreds of free day shows. About a week before look up the bands you want to see on showlistaustin.com for a plethora of free shows.
SO true. i've gone the past 2 years and had an insane amount of fun. saw strfkr last year and just got drunk off free beer the rest of the time. IFC crossroads house ftw!
http://sxsw.com/node/10272 The Cult Headline Auditorium Shores on March 17 Share This Posted by stacey on February 22, 2012 Music Festival The Cult will make its 2012 concert debut when the band plays SXSW next month, headlining the Auditorium Shores Stage on Saturday, March 17. The Auditorium Shores Stage show will be free and open to the public, and The Cult will take the stage at 8:00PM. "SXSW is thrilled that The Cult is returning to play our biggest stage at Auditorium Shores," said Darin Klein, SXSW Festival Producer. "We're excited to hear their new tunes and their classic hits. The show is free and open to the public, so everyone in Austin should get fired up for a great night of music."
I see in the "Festival' lineup there is an act called 'Big Star's Third'. I wonder what's up with that? A band dedicated to Big Star's enigmatic album also known as Sister lovers? A tribute (well deserved) or just a band that likes that album? All in all, looks like a good line-up to me. Have not heard of many of these acts, but that's the whole point, or at least used to be.
Reptar is going to be on sixth during it. If you haven't heard of them and like Alternative check 'em.
having never been to sxsw... yall saying dont register/buy a ridiculously priced pass but to just walk up to the shows? aint no way i got that kind of money.
I hope they have better crowd control than they had last year at Auditorium Shores. This is going to bring out a huge crowd...and I hope I'm part of it.
they have counting crows, the shins, and the cult i imagine most of the fans are old folk i couldn't even get in to see the strokes last year
If anybody tells you SXSW has jumped the shark, make sure you slap them in the face with this little Miracle: http://www.austin360.com/blogs/cont...012/02/21/juggalo_alert_sxsw_saturday_ju.html <iframe width="560" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/_-agl0pOQfs" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> Y'all have fun now, y'hear?
