Lol, a lot of the site also gets emotional on here, Les hasn't been bad as an owner, but unfortunately injuries and other issues have limited the team to only 1 time passing first round since 97, but obviously I think he's done a lot more right for houston than a lot of these other owners. I mean they never had to take multiple seasons off like some of these other teams (76ers) etc. Can you imagine how bad the boards would be then?

This. Les has a team that's being talked about, the most polarizing GM in the game, one of the best players in basketball and a rabid fan base that includes one of the most popular fan sites in the world.
He's a businessman and business is going well. Let the chips fall as they may.

    Spin doctors!

So we should expect to hear this from Peter Holt or Paul Allen or Mark Cuban or Peter Guber/Joe Lacob or Steve Ballmer or Clay Bennett or Robert Sarver, right?

    Thought so.

Sounds like something you'd hear from the Texans and Bob McNair.

Well gosh dang it, we're not winning but the fans keep coming & selling out the stadium, we're talk of the town win or lose, players battlefight for the coach and all is well! Playoffs? Well sure, it'd be great but if it doesn't happen, doesn't happen.

Yes, absolutely they do. Remember when you said the Rockets would get a terrific free agent? LOLOLOLOL

The man is a very wealthy entrepreneur.

Men like that aren't lazy and are hungry to get to the top.

I doubt his sports team(in which he is very passionate for) is acceptable as being mediocre to him.

Les knows Kevin can't coach, but Les knows the players want to play for him. And when the good players want to play ball for him, you stay relevant.

If Les believes in Morey's theories, then his statements make perfect sense. I don't see why many would think it's a spin. It's well known since early days of Moneyball in baseball that regular season is more indicative of strength while playoffs are much more susceptible to randomness.

The NBA this year is very wide open. There's not elite tier the way it was in the past with Spurs/Thunder/Heat. There's going to be a lot of luck and matchups involved in playoff advancement.

I think that's exactly the case. He has some high profile players, he's selling tickets, and he's making a lot of money. Whether we get out of the first round is really irrelevant to that. Pathetic.

One first round playoff victory in 18 freaking years. EIGHTEEN YEARS. Embarrassing.

He said he thinks the team is in a good position to attract talent and that McHale fits in with that.

Sounds like he has a long-term perspective... which is in contrast to the GARM, which tends to have a 1 week perspective on all things in life.

Les is just sending a message to the league that Morey isn't under any pressure to win "or else", so any thoughts of forcing him into a desperation trade can be flushed. That's all I got. :p

Les should know better than most that "long term" is often shorter than you think.

    One word: Blacksox.

Just kidding. I love Les. But it is a weird thing for an owner to say. Maybe he's gotten to the point where he just wants to shield himself against disappointment by playing the pessimist.

Tempest in a teacup. I think people on this site just love to get upset about something. Les is happy with the team, good for him. He probably realizes only one team wins the championship every year, so it is a bit of a crapshoot. In the meantime he is putting a good product out on the floor every night.
