Ron Harper was relegated to a 3nD guy in Chicago, but he actually COULD control an offense, and ran an offense earlier on in his career. He was also a solid floor general, along with Derek Fisher as well. It doesn't matter that Barea wasn't the starter, are you seriously going to argue that Jason Kidd isn't a true point guard? The point was that the vast majority of championship teams had a point guard who knew how to initiate the offense, and that extends beyond just dumping the ball to a Kobe/MJ or feeding a Dwight in the post. Bev is great right now here in Houston. But the Rockets aren't going to be elite with this current version of Bev unless Harden and Howard both have good nights because we are pretty much running our offense solely through them.
I don't see Bev dribble with a purpose. As simple as that. The kid is a backup PG. We still need him, off the bench. But he is not starting material, at least right now.
The problem is that he is hitting 3's and getting offensive rebounds in the majority of nights, the problem is that his backup in Terry was also having an off night.
Bev has been bad these last wo games. No one on this team has the ability to change their play. Instead of jacking up a bad shot when they drive to the basket but suddenly find defenders. This is where a PG with a good offensive game comes in handy.
