They Can Rotate throughout the match, based on there matchups. Personaly i rather see Tracy play the 2 guard spot more often then not, due to his size difference over most other 2 guards in the league!

 

To talk this through a little. Lue, BB & T-Mac start. 6-8 minutes, JJ comes for Lue and BB & T-Mac shift over to PG & SG respectivley. This limits the minutes BB is at the Point against the opposing PG where we could really get hurt.

All 3 positions have 144 minutes total. 30 minutes for Lue, BB & JJ. 40 minutes for T-Mac and that leaves 14 for Boki. Lue all 30 min at PG. BB 18 min at back up PG, 12 at SG. T-Mac 28 min at SG, 12 at SF. JJ 8 min at SG, 22 min at SF. Boki 14 min at SF.

The awesome thing about this line up is that these guys shot 38.0% from the 3PT line last year (37.9% career). The other teams will have to use their PF to double Yao and leave Mo (career 46.7%) or Howard (career 47.1%) open. Very tough decision.

 

I don't understand the LA Times article. My impression is that there are already bidders for Barry that will make him unaffordable to us, unless he's willing to pull a Malone/Payton and play for less. They seem behind the Times. (sorry)

Trading MoT for Barry straight up would be a bad trade for the Rockets. Barry doesnt have the Low-Post game that MoT has. I dont think the Rockets Organization would do that trade.

People here are under-valuing what MoT brings to the table. He has shown that He can be that offensive spark off the bench. Besides, what freaken GM would wanna trade a 30 year old guy who wears braces. Those braces are so dam cute.

 

Interesting move. By declining the team option, does that make him an unrestricted free agent, and can the Cavs now offer more than the MLE to retain his services?

The Rockets can acquire Brent Barry if they want. The question though is would they really pay Barry the kind of money they werent willing to pay James Posey? Based on the numbers being thrown around, the Rockets could get it done if they gave him the full MLE over 3-4 yrs.

Basically, according to what I calculated with 10% raises each season, the MLE over 3 yrs (assuming it starts at 5.4 mil) would be approximately 3 yrs 18 mil. The MLE over 4 yrs would be approximately 4 yrs 25 mil.

Theres no question that is a ton of cash. This is the same amount of cash the Rockets declined on James Posey btw so I dont really know if they will pony up this amount on Barry. Assuming they want to remain under the luxury tax threshold, they would only be able to sign players at the veterans minimum of 1.7 mil to fill out the rest of the roster. This basically means that Barry, McDyess and Ward would total to about 8-9 mil next season meaning that the payroll would be right in the neighborhood of 57-58 mil (which is right where the LT threshold is projected). I really dont know if the Rockets will be ok with taking on this kind of financial burden.

In Jeff's system the 2 and 3 are interchangable. It doesn't really matter what McGrady and Jackson are listed at. Thing will change as the matchup warrants it

 

MManal, I agree. That's why i dont see us getting Barry via the MLE but rather via a Sign and Trade where one of our contracts come off our books to another team while we absorb Barry's contract. Things would even out so to speak. Then we could use the FULL MLE on a Bigman if we wanted to.

To get Barry the money he wants, a sign and trade seems like the only option financially.

If we weren't going to give the money to Posey last year via the MLE, we arent going to do it this year with Barry in my opinion.

 

I tend to agree with Deuce on the sign and trade bit. The question I have which maybe the capologists can answer... I understand that the Rockets cannot deal a player like Nachbar who is making 1.5 mil plus use the entire TE combined with him to take back say 9 mil in salary. However, would it be possible for the Rockets to deal Nachbar to the Sonics just so that they can take on his salary and Rockets take back 5.5 mil or so via the trade exception on Barry in a sign and trade?

Basically, I feel the Rockets need to find a way to unload SOME salary onto the Sonics to make this work. However, I just dont think the Sonics will take back a high salaried player like Mo or Spoon b/c that defeats the entire purpose for them. If they were willing to take that back then why shouldnt they just sign Barry for themselves? There needs to be something in this for the Sonics to facilitate a sign and trade esp within in the same conference.

 

These are good points. I like his game, but I guess the one thing that worries me is that, if we do a sign and trade so that we can pay him more than we could via the MLE, doesn't that mean we're going to have to be paying him quite a lot of money after he turns 35 in two years? I just wonder if the deal can get done for 3 or less years, which is all I think I'd want given his age and injury history.

The advantages of Barry are:

- intelligence. we need some to match Yao.
- floor general. someone to set everyone up w/o wasting clock
- court vision. he's amazingly aware of everyone on the court.
- passer. pin-point precise passes into Yao to start off the inside-out
- shooter. when Yao gets doubled, knock down the shot, or assist
- threes. he's a.406 career average three point shooter
- available. he's a FA this summer. No trade involved.
- cheap. He won't cost us another player. He can be had with MLE
- maturity. comes from great basketball family. veteran to balance
- team player. fits Van Gundy's system, doesn't get out of control
- height. at 6'6". he'd see over most PGs.
- character. he's active in the community, and good person.
- versatile. he can play both SG/PG, to go with best matchups
- turnovers. 1.76 career avg, compared to Stevie's 3.7
- steady. (10.6 points, 5.7 assists, 3.6 rebounds) not greedy

One thing I was thinking about to those who think we ought to get Fisher over Barry, is ... <b>if the Lakers, who just won the West, and recentely won 3 NBA Championships with Fisher, are willing to let Fisher to go, because they want Barry ... that tells me something!</b>

 

The Rockets going after Brent is great news. I hope they get him. Derek Fisher shot 29% from the 3 point line last year. He's around 30 and he's not much of a passer. Other than that he's fine. Playing in the conference and division the Rockets are in they are going to need scoring potencial at every postion, plus he can move over to the 2 spot when nessesary.
