Can anyone explain the emotional attachment people have over millionaire athletes? I look at other sites and people acting like kobe just died. Even fanboys saying they cant sleep, cant eat, and are having anxiety attacks over him getting hurt?:confused:

I am lost on this subject.

You should check the other threads, where posters discuss how a team, barely in the playoff race, just lost it's #1 player to a season ending injury and they have very few games left.

When I saw Yao go out during the Lakers series, I felt my heart sink.

Man I see threads on other sites that make it seem like kobe Died on the court last night. Look at this twitter post

    <blockquote class="twitter-tweet"><p>Have to love my Mom :) she sent me this. <a href="http://t.co/PH0bAXzqnE" title="http://twitter.com/LD2k/status/323177399804121088/photo/1">twitter.com/LD2k/status/32…</a></p>&mdash; Chris Manning (@LD2k) <a href="https://twitter.com/LD2k/status/323177399804121088">April 13, 2013</a></blockquote>

I was questioning the thread till I read this.

    That said difference was:
    1) Rockets had a chance to get to the Finals that year with a healthy Yao.
    2) I could still eat and sleep, it was just really upsetting.

you have to understand that kobe fanboys for the most part are losers who live vicariously through kobe.

    let them grieve in peace.

Many people are seeing this injury as effectively the end of Kobe's career and an era in the NBA. It's quite possible, probable even, that he'll never play anything like the Kobe we know ever again. Considering the attachment many of his most ardent fans have made with him over the past 17 years (hell, some of them have spent their entire basketball lives watching him), it really isn't that weird.

Yeah, a lot of the reaction has been a bit strong for my tastes, but not beyond understanding. Imagining the reaction from some around here if Lin suffered the same injury in just his 2nd year makes the Kobe response actually seem quite tame by comparison.

I was pretty bummed when Yao went down and then retired after the season. So i'd imagine kobe fanboys felt my disappointment X1000000

Lol. Disguised Kobe hate thread. The guy played 17 years in this league, won 5 rings and single handedly willed his team back into the playoff race at a age it shouldn't be possible. Have some respect

Not that I share their sentiments, but with players like Kobe, you get to watch them grow as a player and as a human. You get to watch them struggle and overcome. You get to watch their desires and they start to become a part of your daily ritual. It's our escape from our own monotonous (speaking in general) world. We live vicariously through some of these athletes who can accomplish far greater things (athletically) than we could even fathom.

When this process happens, and an event like this takes place,... it takes that illusion and connection away.

    Kobe:Lakers>>>>>>>>>>>>Yao:Rockets

Yao never even made a first team all nba.

    Kobe:Laker = Hakeem:Rockets.

Imagine if hakeem had a career ending injury. How would you feel?

GTFO. Yao's injuries ensured that we'll never know the team's true potential or whether they could have gone to the finals. TMac's also. If Hakeem had a career-ending injury half-way, we wouldn't remember him the same way either.

Personally I didn't see much sympathy from Lakers fans back when our stars got injured, and I don't expect any. Hopefully Kobe recovers, but when it comes to sports talk Lakers fans can screw themselves.
