Mike D'Antoni's reaction to Kevin McHale saying James Harden is not a leader: "All I can do is talk about my experience, and he's been unbelievably great. Obviously I got Coach of the Year last year because of him and the other 10 guys on the team. He's been great with everything I asked. I asked a lot of him last year. I asked him to be the point guard, I asked him to talk in D, I asked a lot of things and he responded great. We had great chemistry. He's the first one to get them all together in the summer time or take them out during the year to keep the team together. So I didn't see it. He's been great for me."

I like this version of Harden, if those TNT guys and the media thinks they can keep pushing Harden around think again. Harden is teammates with the players union president.. LOVE IT

Oh yeah, those are "his rings." Just doesn't carry the same cachet in the context of leadership and owning it, which McHale inferred when he said James wasn't a leader and absolved himself of any failings to get him there.

 

McHale was a shitty coach and I'm glad he's gone, BUT, as long as Harden keeps having games like games 5 and 6 in the Spurs series last year, he won't shake the narrative about not being a leader. McHale looks extra salty coming out in the media like this and it's not very classy move on his part but Harden is not going to get too many people outside of the Rox fanbase that's going to disagree too much with McHale.
