http://www.chron.com/business/retai...-acquired-by-Anheuser-BuschInBev-10590579.php This is a load of horsecrap. Karbach now goes on the do not buy ever list for me. There are many other local breweries that I'm sure will be glad to take our business.
I gave up on Karbach a while back. I only like the Hopadillah, but I hate the damn cans with the huge plastic six pack holder. Pull one off and try to pour into a glass without 6 inches of foam. As long as Ballast Point Sculpin IPA, Stone Go To IPA and Fresh Squeezed IPA by Deschutes Brewery are available here I'm good. I've tried so many Texas craft beers and to me they're all pretty nasty or just meh, except for one. And it's made in good ol' Dallas. Hop Trapp IPA from Lakewood Brewery. Would buy if I could find it here.
Karbach had some good special release stuff, but their regular rotation was meh. 8th Wonder is better A Texas brewery I was really impressed with was Real Ale, they brought some top notch sours and scotch ales to the GABF this year, One of the best showings of any brewery at the festival
Any of ya'll wanna meet up at Hey Merchant? they are dumping their remaining Karbach beers today at fire sale prices!
Devil's Backbone is a pretty damn good attempt at a Belgian Trippel. Doesn't really taste quite like a Trippel should, but the taste is exceptional and gets you hammered.
Real Ale puts out very consistent beers. I enjoy their seasonal coffee porter every year. Not a fan of their devils backbone but their seasonals are good without trying to do too much. Microbrews are like tech companies now; burst onto the scene, then sell out to make that quick big buck. Im okay with it as long as they retain their independence in the brewing dept.
You can support foreign brewery owners if you like but I support Houston made, Houston based and Houston profits.
This. It seems though that people make their beer choices based on the meta-properties of the beer. Shouldn't be surprising, I guess; it's the same with wine.
Count me in the "keep making good beer, don't change all your recipes, and keep the biergarten open and I'll keep drinking crowd". Not that big a deal to me if it just means better distribution and more possibilities for them.
