Interesting trade, Jrue is an awesome defender but a horrific offensive player. Boston's playoff issues are typically on offense, where Jrue will hurt them
Lol. Porzingis is an offensive player. Robert Williams and Grant Williams were defensive players. We could go all day long. It is not good to have 4 scorers on your team, you need balanced touches even with Tatum and Brown as your first 2 options.
Disagree slightly. All Boston was missing, offensively, was a big that could create his own shot. Horford needed to be set up. Timelord was only a rim runner. Now, they went out and got Porzingis - when healthy, he's one of the best offensive bigs in the game. They traded Marcus Smart for him, one of the best defensive guards in the league. But then they got essentially a better version of Smart, in Holiday. Both are on the same level, defensively, but Holiday has better stats across the board. Smart also tends to make some boneheaded decisions on offense, such as jacking up 3s when the other 4 players on the court would have been a better option - you won't really see that with Holiday's decision-making. Holiday also brings championship experience, and would have no problem deferring to the primary option (Giannis, Tatum). One can argue that Boston got slightly worse, defensively (Holiday >= Smart, Timelord > Porzingis), but Boston got WAY better offensively. As a result, I think Boston, on paper, is better than Milwaukee. They went and got themselves a Lillard stopper.

Triple J's, holy smokes! Great way to respond by the Celtics who are back in business. Blazers got a very solid return as well. They have Jerami Grant & Ayton + Williams paired with some young bucks. We have VanVleet, Brooks + Landale paired with some young bucks. We are going to have some nice battles.
This is FASCINATING. I'm trying to go through the thought experiment now because I'm sure the Bucks would have thought twice if they knew trading Holiday for Dame would mean Holiday ended up getting traded to their rival. Here is the question from the Bucks standpoint: Which Bucks team has a better chance of winning the East? Holiday/Middleton/Crowder/Giannis/Lopez matching up against Brogdon/Tatum/Brown/Porinzgis/Williams OR Dame/Middleton/Crowder/Giannis/Lopez matching up against Holiday/Tatum/Brown/Porzingis/Horford ...I think the Bucks had to trade for Dame because their team is VERY big and slow making their offense a real slog and Dame gives them one of the most dynamic and quickest players in the league who can stretch defenses in ways no one else there could - he is instant offense....BUT the Celtics got better I think both offensively and maybe defensively too this offseason and if you consider Robert Williams is almost never healthy(plays less than half the games every year), flipping him for someone who will likely be on the roster in playoff crunch time is of real value. Also consider - while the Celtics got smaller against the Bucks, they also added another switching guard/wing defender making it harder on Dame.....I mean this is just a FASCINATING sequence of events. ...and oh yeah - the Heat sat tight, didn't overpay, and continued to bet on culture and continuity despite their best players being on the threshold of usefulness for the minutes and grind they play. Something has to give there at some point.
I give credit to Stevens for having balls. Not many GMs would have done this. It's a bit of a nuclear race as Bucks and C's tries to out-do the other. This off-season, Celtics said goodbye to two Williams (Grant & Rob), but got a Holiday. Off season; tally #1 Guards: Smart and Malcom -> Holiday #2 Bigs: 2 Williams -> Porzingis #1 is OK. #2 I'm not high on. Porzingis' good numbers on the Wiz may have skewed his value. With Rob gone and if C's load manage Al, Kristap is on the hook for rim defense. As muscular and tall Tatum has become, Mazzula also has to convince Tatum to play more PF permanently and grab the rebounds that Kristap might not. Notes: - C's lost depth, and overall still skewed from DEF to OFF. + They rid of couple injured guys (Rob / Malcom) in the consolidation. Some of the back locker room hierarchy and politics is simplified. The starting 5 is still solid. p.s. Malcom had to get moved. Though he was given the label "sacrifice"; and he did, took less money to come to BOS. He wasn't shy in reminding the media and Brad that when they put a mic in front of him. After his injury, discontent and early trade rumors in spring; writing was on the wall. Pretty much. Brogdon became sort of a malcontent, that was one of the reasons they moved him and Brogdon is basically just a bench scorer, those are not as common as they were in the past but still not the hardest to find ....younger scorers.
