I wouldn't count on it. New cap rules and new NBA might prevent fringe all stars from getting max contracts

If you're not a complete scrub, most likely you will get a max contract. So calm down Josh Smith, someone is going to overpay you.

I don't think it was ever in doubt that he was going to get max money, this just sort of puts to rest any idea that he'd give a "hometown discount" to anyone. He wants his money.

Yeah, and I think my employer should be paying me 500K+ a year, and give me a free brand new Range Rover for a company car, but we dont always get what we think we deserve now do we Joshua?

Do you think that he won't get paid max?

Only teams that have the max, or close to the max to offer are going to be Dallas, Houston, Cleveland, Phoenix, and Atlanta last time I checked pre-Memphis/Speights trade.

-I dont know if any of these teams are really in a position where just adding Josh Smith to their roster makes them a contender. If Dirk played another position, then I would say that Smith could get offered the max in Dallas, but they aren't going to do so for a player that plays the same position as Dirk.

-If Atlanta was going to shell out that kind of money, they would have already extended him before the deadline to do so last year.

-Houston, I just dont see Morey viewing him as a top 20 NBA player. I think he will go after him, but at a price in his mind that will keep his contract movable if they need to move him in a trade.

-Phoenix is a dark horse to acquire him. They need to make some other moves prior, but I do think they would legitimately look at doing something this stupid.

-Cleveland... I just dont see him being a good fit. I think they are probably going to look at continuing to draft talent, and groom to fit alongside Irving for the future.

-Plus add in the fact that the market this Summer will be flooded with other options for these teams to add a player of his caliber if not better. Al Jefferson could be sought after first, and these teams could look at acquiring someone like Gasol as a better option then going after Smith. Millsap is going to be out there too, and dont forget that these teams might want to hold out for the potential of Love/Aldridge/ or Cousins shaking loose first.

So add in the watered down market & the small amount of buyers in the market, and I would say its very likely that Josh Smith doesn't get close to the max offered him by any of these teams.

As to that specific point, Smith could play the 3 farly easily, he wouldn't have to be the same position as Dirk. I think that he has a good chance of getting the max somewhere, some team will miss out on what they want to do and settle for him.

Ok, tell me what team and why? You make a case for Dallas here, but giving a player the max, and "hoping" that they can shift to another position on the floor is highly presumptive for a team as well calculated as the Mavericks are. Im not saying Cuban wouldn't do it, but just that I see it as highly unlikely.

Someone will. There are teams flush with cash and weak at the 4 spot. He is young enough and talented enough that someone will think they can get more out of him.

He isn't even the best player on the Hawks. He has a low basketball IQ, poor offensive player and quite frankly a mediocre defender. For every block or steal there is an easy layup because he is out of position.

The guy is not a good rebounder and not a good scorer. The only thing he is is a weak side shot blocker. How is that worth the max? He's more an MLE guy than a max guy. His TS% is 13th out of 15 on the Hawks right now.
