This post had me reminiscing if Lance's production dropped after a new contract. But yeah, Alex needs to play better and will likely do so.

Just thinking out loud here, could Altuve’s struggles be at all related to the current situation in his home country of Venezuela? I know professional athletes are supposed to be great at focusing on their profession and not letting outside factors turn into distractions, but with all that is going on in Venezuela I don’t think anyone could blame him if that’s turned into a bit of a distraction for him. I sure think I’d be distracted by it if I were in his shoes.

 

There's been strife in Venezuela for his entire career. I feel safe in saying he's learned to compartmentalize that.

In his MVP season he wasn't performing much better around this time. It's just a funk combined with some bad BABIP luck. I fully expect we will see a decline of some kind from Altuve before this deal is up, but it won't happen at 28.

 

That’s fair. Hadn’t thought about the fact that this has been going on for most of his career. I fully expect his luck will turn around soon enough.
