Basically Jonathan said from the Rockets stand point on Yao Ming is a must...no brainer. They need his size and you cant pass on him, he was compared to Ralph Sampson but can pass a lot better. He also stated that the Rockets have done everything possible to get Yao in the draft and make the Goverment realize Houston is a great place for him. The only thing left is for the Goverment to decide how much money they get. He speculates that some Goverment officials may want Yao to stay another year in China before going, they arent scared about him never coming back to China because he is Yao Ming, his parents both were great Chineese players. His mom is like 6'4 and is well respected. Feigan ended with talking about many Houston players do not want someone who will need 3-4 years to adapted to the game, they want a Odom, a veteran who can come in and contribute now. The bottom line Dan Patrick said was well Im not sold on Yao Ming but it looks like he will be a Rocket.

Hmmmm.... I hope it's just speculation by Feigan and not something he has heard from some of the Rockets representatives.

When Francis and Mobley become COACHES, then they can get the players THEY WANT. This is Rudy's team, not Francis's, not Mobley's. While Odom would be a nice addition, we need a center, and centers with talent like Ming's don't come along very often.

Good quotes, good read. Thanks Clutch, thanks Brent.

At least the players are keeping an open mind ("wow, Rudy went to China because of this guy, there must be something to it.")

Thanks for the updates everyone! Hopefully things can be worked out so we will know something concrete before the weekend. Things sound promising, but I think most want to be put at ease with something concrete before we draft him.

    Also, later in the program

the pres of the Atlanta Hawks said he too would take Ming, in the Rockets place

when you are going to pay a player millions of dollars for 4 years
whats a couple weeks of work and a few million frequent flier miles

well, "many rockets players" can get rid of Rudy first. It is not hard. Then they can decide where Yao ming should go.

I was particularly happy to hear those comments. Expanding upon what is in Clutch's report, Patrick asked about how the players felt about Ming and the prospect of him joining the team.

The response was that they were very mixed. There was originally a feeling of not wanting another "prospect," especially since the current guys felt they have paid their dues, and that a veteran (ie: Odom) was in their best interest. However, the players admitted to JF they really didn't know anything about Ming's skills, and all they had seen was the Chicago workout where (in JF's words) "He only proved he could run the court without tripping over himself." Things have started to change in the past week as the players saw/heard Rudy talking about this guy. Rudy is the coach, and has the full support of his players. If he believes in Ming's game (and he does, because he took the trip to Shanghai), then (a) picking Ming is going to happen, and (b) they will get on board with it.

People are constantly pounding on Francis and Mobley for wanting a player that can help now, but how many times do the same people always get on the Rockets to make a trade at the trade deadline to help NOW! Or make a trade during the summer to help NOW! I don't blame them for wanting a player that can help them win now. It's easy for people to get on them, they haven't been stuck on a team that has been struggling for the last 3 years. The fans may watch this happen and can walk away. The players have to suffer through this game after game.

    EVERYONE WANTS TO WIN NOW,but...

would if there was a sure bet, another Jordan for example, would you go along with Francis and Cat if they said "oh nevermind him we want to win now, forget this guy coach"

I'd say kiss my butt you primadonnas, I'm drafting this guy right now.

Who's to say Rudy even wants this guy? It's entirely possible Rudy has hesitation and that he is just being told what is occurring... his feelings or not.
