i know this place has been brought up in the forum before, how good is this place? is it similar to Potbelly's? i noticed they are opening one up near Buffalo Speedway in the same strip center as 100% Taquito.
i dont like it very much b/c they dont have many bread choices. however, i know quite a few people who think its the best sub place period.
It is. There are no frills... they're not going to load it down with a bunch of condiments, sauces, or flavored bread. Its just great tasting meat and cheese, a few veggies, and fresh bread. Too many sandwich places get a little tooo crazy over how much "stuff" they can fit into one piece of bread. Jimmy John's is a case of where less is truly more.
I hate vegetables. And I stopped going to sandwich/sub type restaurants like Subway. But my roommate forced me to try her veggie club sandwich from Jimmy John's and it's damn good and I'm hooked on them.
my favorite sub place in austin - and there is a location only 3 minutes from my house (i have timed it). that bread is so good! they bake it there. i eat there at least once a week and the food quality is consistently top-notch - always fresh veggies and very crunchy lettuce! congrats houston - you got a good sub place. pretty reasonable prices too - cheaper than subway, at least. and if you like sea-salt and vinegar chips try theirs.
I'm also in the crew of eating there atleast once a week. I can get there in 5 minutes and they have my sandwich ready before I've even signed my name on the credit card receipt. And the bread and mayo is freakin' delicious. My first experience with it was a 2am drunken snack and it was the most tasty thing I'd ever had in my life.
jj's is awesome, i lived next door to the one on mlk and nueces. i ate there every day and didnt get TOO sick of it.
It's also my favorite sub place and I used to eat there quite often. I can't get enough of the bread. Why is Houston slow to getting all these places????
The "less is more" comment is spot on. I can't think of another fast food item I drool over more than their roast beef club.
that's a good question.... and i must say i'm a little upset that someone else jmped on my idea of opening one in houston before i had time to jump on it oh well.... i worked practically across the street fromthe downtown austin location on 6th and congress and would go there all the damn time. so freakin' good. the french bread is magical! damn, now i want a #9 italian night club w/ no onions, add hot peppers, and a bag of salt and vinegar chips... :drool
Neither Jersey Mike's nor Kahn's is a delicatessen. Jersey Mike's is a sub shop. Kahn's is a sandwich shop. If you want a delicatessen, go to Kenny and Ziggy's. That's the best deli in Houston.
