James Harden is gonna get screwed over again in MVP Voting

It's not bad to want to the team to have success and the individuals on the team to have success, and I really don't understand why people still complain about that.

 

Does Westbrook winning MVP mean Harden got "screwed over?" Sure, some people may think Harden deserved the MVP more than Westbrook but Harden certainly did not get "screwed over." Both guys deserved it and only one guy could win.

 

Blake still salty about the guy leaving that created his buckets.

 

Wanting individuals to have success is one thing. Allowing that desire to turn into an obsession over who wins the MVP award is another. Talk to anyone who isn't sharply biased, and they'll say that multiple people were deservingly last year and there was no clear-cut winner.

And for goodness sake, people need to put things in the proper perspective. Westbrook got his MVP. Does that really change anything? Do people look at him any differently? Is his team all of a sudden a more attractive destination to FAs?

Winning an MVP without also winning or at least being a legit contender for the ultimate prize doesn't mean a whole lot.

 

1) Sure, it wasn't clear-cut who the winner was. That's fine. The main issue is the goalpost shifting that happened this year. That was clear-cut.

2) I would say that yes, Westbrook winning MVP very much does impact how he's perceived, especially for how his legacy will be perceived. Say for example...the media shifts the goalposts towards Harden rather than away, he has 2 MVP's, which absolutely heightens his legacy/reputation. Sure...if you say "championship or bust" it doesn't MATTER, but I think any truly elite player cares about that a lot. The fans have every right to as well.

3) Sure, I agree....which is why it was silly that for basically the first time in history, the MVP was given to somebody who failed to meet that criteria.

 

Just give it to him again. I don't think the fan base or Harden cares anymore.

If he didn't win it last year there is no hope.

The narrative has already been written with the "passing of the torch" of NBA's Best from LeBron to Durant. Durant (assuming healthy) will win MVP on the strength of that narrative, his general stats and the fact GSW will have the best record in the NBA and Durant will be the "best player on the best team."

I really don't see Westbrook having a chance to win it. His numbers will go down with PG in tow and the "new factor" of what he did last year won't have as much impact.

Kawhi has the best chance at MVP other than Durant (and LeBron) because he can be that "one man team" elevating his team to a top record, perhaps 2nd in the NBA behind GSW if everything falls right for them. Which I doubt.

 

I think Harden has stopped caring about this sham of an award. Championships are literally all that matters, and him coveting Chris Paul and Carmelo Anthony to join him here shows that he agrees with that sentiment.

I've said and still maintain that while Harden had a great bounce back season from the 15-16 disaster, he's overall performance - including during the latter half of the regular season and the playoffs - was not as great as some people made it out to be. I was cheering for his MVP until mid-January, and then everything went down the hill from there. Now, the same could be said for Westbrook in terms of how his actual performance on the court didn't match the hype surrounding his raw numbers, but at least WB picked up his game as the season progressed whereas Harden - along with our team record - just peaked too early, which is never good for the narrative (you always want to finish strong even if you start weak, then vice versa.)

In my opinion, Harden didn't get screwed over this time around because unlike this year, he did receive sympathy votes from the players back in 14-15 when Harden was arguably more consistent and important to our team success.

 

By all standards and criteria of the formula the map has fit over the last 30 plus years, Harden most certainly got screwed over.

I got too much empathy seeing Harden get screwed out of his award 2 times now. He's hated by the media so they flipped the narrative both times to screw him and its horrible.

Its weak to say forget it, I can be tuned in to the enough and still rip apart injustices all day.
