Just heard it on the mike and mike show. it was really just a matter of time before it happened, although they should have just waited until the end of the season to do it. Gabbert looks terrible out there so I'm not sure what direction they want to go with.
He's the 6th most tenured coach in the NFL. Behind only Andy Reid, Bill Belichick, Marvin Lewis, Tom Coughlin, and Lovie Smith. Incredible.
Still don't know why the jags didn't fire him during the offseason. They completely quit on him last year.
Contract. He would've been owed a butt-ton of money if they did that. The Jags are cheap, shady bastages. See Garrard, David.
Whoever made the decision to draft Gabbert should be canned as well. That guy makes David Carr look poised in the pocket.
Sorry to see him go. He sucked and I was happy the dumbass Jaguars kept him around so long ensuring they'd constantly underachieve.
But he looks like a QB. Throughout the entire draft process, I kept wondering why people thought he was a top QB. Chase Daniel preceded him at Missouri, and put up monster numbers (73% 39-18) as a Senior. Gabbert with the same coaching posted 63% 16-9 in his junior season. Chase Daniel was better all 3 years as a starter than Gabbert was in either of his seasons as a starter. Its true that college success and pro success don't go together, but usually, the pro successes aren't usually way out performed by an undrafted player in the same offense.
Reid: Multiple conference championship games, consistently in the playoffs, team made a superbowl Belicheck: 3 Sb titles, consistently in the playoffs, undefeated regular season Marvin Lewis: 2 division titles Tom Coughlin: Superbowl title, multiple playoff appearances Lovie Smith: Division titles, NFC title games, team made a SB Kubiak: 1 winning season
Watching Gabbert play at Mizzou, he didn't look ready at all. He came out after 3 years, and still looks pretty raw. Jax should have redshirted him this year rather than throwing him out there.
A lot of pressure to win in the NFL. Kubiak and Del Rio were both facing playoffs or fired. Kubiak may not need to make the playoffs due to the QB injuries, but its highly unlikely they don't win the division at this point. Marvin Lewis has also been on the hot seat, and has had a job saving season.
Marvin Lewis was on the heat seat this year despite two division titles on his resume as the head coach in Cincy of all places. Jack Del Rio made the playoffs twice in his first 5 years with only one losing season. Kubiak's resume doesn't match up with any of these people that he's on the list with.
Word out of Jax is that Del Rio had pretty much mailed it in after signing his new contract. Coming to work at 9, leaving as early as possible, throwing coaches under the bus, etc.
This was my argument during the off-season. Even the bad teams had fired their coaches sooner. Oh well, barring an epic collapse, he should be safe.
Word... How Kubes survived this long is beyond me...this season saved him for sure...although the season isn't over yet...
