Sampson's injury maybe just a tad more disappointing.

It's definitely not big news around the city. If it wasn't for Clutchfans I wouldn't even know about the hiring.

Really should put the question in concept of "within control" of the organization. The injuries of great players, the desire of star players to play beyond their prime expecting to still get paid really don't fall in the same category.

Watching the couple years after the championship years were tough. I don't blame organization for those disappointing times. I really wanted to keep the team together one more year.

    Now to the current Rockets:

This past season was a huge disappointment because expectations were so high. The hiring of MDA is a huge disappointment because it completely goes against all the rhetoric and expected statements of "improving defense". HC will set the bar, and don't see defense being a part of that.

I am more disappointed by the performance of the team last year because expectations were high. The organization has become dysfunctional with MDA hiring, and the new lows will be accessed after this next season.

Losing to Utah at home game 7 in 2007 playoffs and the Stockton nail in the coffin were worse.

This is apples and oranges. The question should be whether this is as disappointed by an offseason decision as we've ever been. If that's the question then I suppose it's a heavy contender. Hakeem leaving was disappointing, but I don't remember any coaching hire being this overwhelmingly negative. In terms of performance disappointment I'd go the Barkley/Dream/Pippen Rockets.

I think the biggest Rockets disappointments came before I became a big fan in the early 90's. Those were huge disappointments, but I still felt I had paid my dues as a big time Oiler fan, and I think they were the primary reason for the Choke City headline. Also, the fact the Astros couldn't get Mike Scott a Game 7.

For me, as a whole, I do not view the Rockets as a disappointment at all. Nobody wins it all every year, and I feel the championships left me with enough drama and elation to keep watching a couple more decades.

Younger people act like Yao's injuries cost us a dynasty. That's untrue. Yao and TMac were healthy in the playoffs a few times and got nowhere. When teams had time to prepare, teams figured Yao out. Yao was a very nice guy, but he was obviously very flawed as a player - too flawed to be relied upon to deliver a championship

Also, will add that my biggest Rockets disappointment was the Stockton shot, because I wanted us to play Chicago bad

D'Antoni isn't an inspiring hire, but he's miles better than Bickerstaff. While the goal shouldn't merely be "better than Bickerstaff," it's hard to call an upgrade, even a lame one, one of the greatest disappointments ever.

And perhaps D'Antoni will actually do a good job, especially with a smart defensive mind on the bench. Again, not a thrilling hire, but let's have some perspective.

This off season is disappointing considering the coaching options that were available and we took on the worst one out of them all. It's like getting the ugly Kardashian (no offense to beard).

But season hasn't started yet. If we don't improve our roster by the start of the season and miss the playoffs, then you can argue on this being a top 5 disappointment.

    Still tho. **** you leslie.

Not even close. For me the biggest disappointment in Rockets history was Scottie Pippen.

No and if it is we'll have to wait until they play one game.

Biggest ever? Really? Not even close.

If you narrow the question to most disappointing coaching hire, then at the outset, it maybe in the top half.

But I dont think we can really gauge the move until the new year or so. With the right assistants and allowing those assistants to actually have a voice, there is a (outside) chance this may not be the disaster that has been Pringles recent coaching history, not to mention the apparent bad fit (offense oriented coach on a team with no defense).

Yes, its disappointing in that there seemed to be better fits available (JVG, Vogel).

Maybe not initially but the ripple effects over the next two years when Morey tries to make it work with D'Antoni and the roster is recycled and then houston no longer is a desired place for free agents etc. It will hurt the franchise for many years. A very dumb move in my opinion.
