Ted employs the typical libertarian rhetoric against "crony capitalism: as a sort of shield against the fact that his policies benefit the 1%, but especially the .001% who typically fund the guys who want to eliminate the IRS and thus their taxes.

Ted has opposed net neutrality, Ted supports Citizens United. Essentially he supports all news and info to come from the .001%. He supports the same group (crony capitalists) funding and therebye controlling all politicians. Now as his followers stress he is so smart so he knows that is the effect of these type of his positions.

Now it is true that he also claims to be very religious so I will give him the benefit of the doubt that faith, not reason, is why he believes in the type of religion that doesn't believe in evolution, or believes in dinosaurs on the earth around the time of Jesus etc. His sway over these folks is the reason why some of the crony capitalists prefer him over other conservative/liberal politicos.

Each side of aisle will have their share of "extreme" candidates that have absolutely zero chance of winning because they are so polarizing. To win the presidency you must appeal to moderates, and Cruz will not do so.

The democrats will have someone (or several) that is the polar opposite at some point during the election cycle, probably sooner rather than later.

The only candidates that will stand a chance are the ones that aren't radical to a point of ridiculousness. So worrying about Ted Cruz at all is a waste of time.

I was reacting to Ted Cruz mouthing the phrase "crony capitalism" in his reason why he is not your typical Romney style Republican.

I should have posted the whole discussion of the misuse of the idea of crony capitalism" by the whole conservative/"libertarian" spectrum of politicians to defend their whole inability to deal with the ever increasing inequality their policies create..

At best they are naïve about unbridled corporate or billionaire self interest.

I read someone's post earlier today that Ted Cruz's purpose is to make the other GOP candidates look less crazy.

I have observed before that the more press the extreme right gets in this campaign the more right the center moves i.e. St. Reagan would be a Centrist now.

The only sane voice out there at all is Bernie Sanders. I would urge you to put him in your Twitter feed so you can maintain an idea about what the US government should be about. And when you want to claim he's a crazy socialist, bring his direct quotes in and explain how you think they are crazy, or not in the standards of American governance or not more in the Christian tradition.

He posts everyday, especially during the budgeting process.

How are you a crony capitalist when you want to reduce the size of government?

Takes bigger government and that's why Democrats are your crony capitalists.

I understand that glynch is one of the few folx here whom you can reliably hope to best in the brutal bloods port that is D&D, but doing it so badly is like scheduling an FCS school for homecoming and then fumbling the opening kickoff.

Because when you support actions leading to more and more info and all elected politicians to be controlled by crony capitalists.

Oh let's do the libertarian analysis : " Let's pretend their is no government then..." We would have no government for these crony capitalism wannabes to capture I guess.

I am trying to be somewhat real world in this thread.

Such touching trust you have that unelected billionaires to behave themselves. Ahistorical but nonetheless touching.

No, Obama is the "tool" of crony capitalism. Who does the Affordable Health Care Act cater to? The giant insurance companies. Who wanted executive amnesty? The U.S. Chamber of Commerce. Who does it hurt? Labor Unions and the average American Worker. It doesn't seem to matter who we elect President, the crony capitalists are in charge. Their interests are served. Ted Cruz may be the most ideological candidate in the Republican field. He probably has fewer "corporate" sponsors than any of the others. Now on the Democratic side, Hillary represents Big Money. She is the farthest from the peoples' candidate.

I don't see how net neutrality and citizens united have anything to do with crony Capitalism.

Net neutrality created utilities, the ultimate form of crony capitalism.

The fears of citizens united turned out to be unfounded and anti science.

Dodd-Frank was super crony capitalism. The big banks have zero threat of competition now.

A better path would have just been to raise capital requirements, like Elizabeth Warren recommended.

And require a 20% down payment on all homes
