You don’t publicly throw your leadership under the bus at the 11th hour. I guarantee they’ve talked to Dusty.
People were complaining about him being too hands on… now he’s too hands off? He’s likely just as involve as he always is… every year. You don’t really hear from him till all the networks start interviewing him in the playoffs, and even then it’s usually only during the World Series.
What do you expect him to do? Hold a press conference about how disappointed he is with the way the season has gone?
Everyone who owns an MLB franchise is a successful businessman. Most haven’t had franchises have the kind of success Crane has had with the Astros. He currently owns the team that last won a WS. I get it’s frustrating as hell right now, but some perspective is healthy.
Crane did literally everything wrong after winning it at all. Literally everything. His ego and pride led the collapse of this dynasty and it all could’ve been avoided.
Since I don't know the inside, all I know is what I see with my bias eyes. So I'm going to go ahead and blame Dusty for how he's failed to manage this team, Bagwell for the stuff he has said this off season that pissed me off, and Crane for going away from what built them to be winners. And the WBC and rule changes.
I mean the team was doing solid until whatever this **** was going 2-7 v the Royals and A's. Reasonably we should be at 90-66. I wasn't expecting another World Series run but it's hard to **** on Crane for whatever the **** just happened in the last 12 games.
Is this a joke? What can Crane possibly say or do at this point? They either make the playoffs and go deep into the playoffs or changes will be made in the off season. Winning takes some degree of good fortune and luck. Last year the Astros had career years out of their bullpen and avoided serious injuries. This year the Astros lost four starters from last year by May 1 (Verlander/McCullers/Garcia/Urquidy). Brantley was out 95% of the year, Altuve missed a huge chunk - so did Alvarez as well…. And the relievers that the former GM got that were so good in 2022, were not in 2023. **** happens.
Agreed. If all the problems the team avoided last year didn't happen this year, then Dusty's management style would be just fine. As it is he wasn't quite aggressive enough prioritizing winning individual games and they could not overcome the bad luck. The only thing Crane did was accept Dusty's style and give him license to sit the best players often throughout the season simply by hiring/extending him. 2 weeks ago this team looked like it was the #2 seed and steamrolling into the playoffs again. By the time they weren't it was impossible to make any changes.
