that's only because he's not strong enough yet...for a guy who was taken with the 25th pick, I'm very happy with him

Yea he's good for the 25th pick, but not good enough to win a Championship if he's your starting Center. Also, he's terrible defending the perimeter -> u can't switch -> we still do it and he gets blown by every time, if they don't shoot over him.

I don't see why not being able to defend the perimeter should be a knock against Capela when that's the case for the vast majority of C's in the NBA

He's only 23 and still improving, why are u already closing the book on him and stating that he can't be the starting C for a championship caliber team?

He will get a big contract next offseason. We are in win-now mode with CP3 at age 32. He is just not the right piece if he still needs time to learn and his numbers will get him a good contract next offseason. Gotta look at the big picture.

big contract as in what. this has been discussed several times. no team is offering him max. that time has already passed a couple years ago to cash in at the right time

is he going to get a nice raise sure. but max, no

    1. Contract year
    2. Win-now mode with CP3 at age 32.
    3. Name a quality Center that can't defend the perimeter decently

Otto Porter got a max-deal this offseason, why shouldn't capela get ~18m?

otto porter is a 2 way wing player. those are premiums in this league. no comparison

especially in this era of small ball

    1. What is your point about it being a contract year? U don't want to pay him? U feel he's only playing well because it's a contract year?
    2. We will be hard pressed to get somebody better than him with limited assets and limited cap space
    3. Gortat, Vucevic, Whiteside, Towns, Brook Lopez, Jokic just to name a few off the top of my head

Well, if thats not good enough for you then how about Ian Mahinmi : 16m as a bench player with inferior numbers to capela. Also tanking trash teams will need to give their salary to someone and why not give it to a, to describe it in your words, "23 year old who is still learning"?

people think tanking trash teams is some legit answer. if theyre tanking theyre looking for players that dont mind sucking and losing. cash in for maybe a year. capela is far from molded into that

yeah just let me know when he decides to go from a 50-60 win teams to a 10 wins team

    1. no, i dont want to match the contracts hes going to get.
    2. That might be true, that still doesnt de-value my opinion on him. The fact that we can't get anybody who's better, doesn't make him, to quote the thread title "the answer at C"
    3. All of them have way better footwork and are way better at perimeter defense than CC. Well Towns prob isn't, he's just ovr a bad defender.
