With this updated information, Miami actually did pretty well in this trade. Iggy and Crowder are excellent rotational wing pieces -- the kind Morey dreams about at night. Although, this move doesn't propel the Heat to serious contention in the East in my opinion, I can see the logic behind it. Pat Riley is trying to court Giannis for 2021 and the Heat need to look like a legitimate destination. If they can reach the Eastern Conference Finals beating out Boston and Philadelphia, then Riley can make a strong pitch to Giannis about bringing his services down to South Beach next summer. As for Memphis, like I said earlier in this thread: the Grizzlies won big in this trade. Additionally picking up Waiters and Johnson is actually quite useful. They both have players options next season. So Grizzlies are basically rolling over expiring contracts, which they can use in the offseason along with draft picks to make a trade for a big name player.
Can’t believe Memphis has Iggy and Crowder and got 0 picks and decided they would take on Waiters terrible contract. What is going on???
This has unquestionably turned into the Jae Crowder deal. He has been a perfect fit in Miami. I always thought he would fit in perfectly here with what we would need from him. Interesting to see him basically playing that same role for the the Heat. Guarding multiple positions, being a tough, hard nosed physical defender and knocking down 3 pointers.
Crowder is a FA after this year, but if he keeps being an important cog in the Heat’s playoff run, he is going to demand a decent sized contract I would imagine.
