This is my favorite as as well followed by the Dodgers.

If he goes to NYY you can kiss being AL favorites goodbye

They’re gonna overpay for him. Because I think the Yankees really want to be win the World Series. Tanaka looks like a #2. If they get Cole to be their number one and maybe acquire one more pitcher. I think they’re set to be favorites

    they’ll have Cole, wheeler, Tanaka

What good does being a favorite do? We are favorites for the world series and look what has happened. Rather be underdogs honestly.

Easy answer. Look at Clayton Kershaw, Chris Sale, Giancarlo Stanton - Big contracts and their teams are figuring out what to do with their big contracts

So you don't want to be the favorite because they don't always win. You know who else generally doesn't win even more? The underdogs.

If you look at the past 10 years, more or less 3 have been favorite and won the championship. It’s better to be the underdog because you have a chip on your shoulder. In 2017 the Astros were underdogs and came out on top.

So 7 out of 10 have been underdogs. Except each year has 1 favorite and 9 underdogs.

    3 out of 10 favorites won (30%).
    7 out of 90 underdogs won (7.7%).

Not trying to get in between but wouldnt they all be in the same pool though?

3 favorites out of 100 teams participating. 3%
7 underdogs out of 100 teams participating. 7%

No - he gets to choose his pool and he's saying he'd rather be in the underdog pool (90 teams) than the favorites pool (10 teams). It's harder to actually be the favorite, but it's but dumb to not WANT to be the favorite. If you are the favorite, you have a better chance to win and win more often, which should be common sense.

Favorites winning backwards (if just talking about championship series) this decade

    18 Red Sox
    16 Cubs
15- no favorite, both were -110
14- Giants were even money so I guess they were the slightest of underdogs
    13- Red Sox
    09- yankees

So, The last 10 World Series that have been decided the favorite has gone 4-5, with one series even money. The tie breaker that has underdogs winning more than favorited is the series won by the giants when they were even money. In other words, baseball is really random and anyone can win over 7 games.

Yeah, and guess what? To win a championship series, you have to get to a championship series. And favorites are much more likely to get to the championship series. There is no scenario where being a good team is better than being a great team, unless you prefer losing.

Tell that to the Nationals vs the Dodgers. You are forgetting this is baseball. This isn’t basketball where the better team wins in a 7 game series.

I'm pretty sure if both teams could do it over again, the Nationals would rather have won 106 games and had homefield advantage and not had to play in a wild card game. And pretty sure the Dodgers would prefer not to be a wildcard team.

Just because a team wins doesn't mean it's the preferred route to winning.

Watch from 8:05. Wow the abuse that Yanks fans gave to Cole while he was warming up probably ruined their chances of getting him. What fkin pieces of *****. Can you imagine Astros fans yelling f bombs and making fun of someones mom? Imagine words being said at Strasburg while he was warming up?

No way Cole ever goes to Yanks IMO.
