    2001 would go to Duncan considering how Kobe was great in 2001, it was his first year as a superstar.

    2005 would probably still go to Nash.

    My alterations to OP's list...

    '07: I think Dirk deserved it this year for sure.
    '08: CP3 all the way. Totally got ripped off. Kobe's year was in 2006.
    '09-'12: LeBron James 4-peat. I don't know why they gave it to Rose in '11.

    My early pick for the 2013 MVP is Kevin Durant.

    Can't believe I'm dipping my toe into this considering the posts above yours, but if it were taken literally it would typically go to someone either on a rookie scale or mid-level contract. Players like LeBron, Durant and Rose. Possibly Love last season had he not been injured late.
