No, we'd still have to beat Dallas. But if the beat Dallas, that could push Utah from 8th to 7th seed ... which means we matchup against the Jazz.

Do we prefer to avoid Jazz in the first round, or play Denver at home in the second round?

you play to win as many games possible and you lick your chops for your playoff opponent.

you don't cower in fear based on a scenario that looks good on paper.

and the answer to the question: simply, yes.

Ok I think Houston and Denver is going to win tonite ... but

If Rockets beat Dallas on weds

and Denver loses to Portland in Portland

are we #2? and play Dallas ?

wait ...... or would Portland win the division if the beat Denver that last game and be #2?

and Denver goes to #4 or #5 ??

For 24 hours, yes. But honestly, it's a meaningless 24 hours.

Wednesday vs. the Mavs means everything for the Rockets. 2 seed with a win or 4/5 seed with a loss depending on Spurs losing/winning against the Hornets.

No. They won't. The Rockets will win the tiebreaker if they are tied with the Spurs and they go 2-0, because that means the Rockets won in Dallas.

Yessir. I'm sick of all these threads that talk about how the Rockets need to duck and dodge whatever team.

Wouldnt Denver still be #2 since they have the better division record?

No. Division record doesn't apply to inter-division teams like Houston and Denver.

My ideal situation has us winning the division and finishing 3rd in the conference, assuring that we don't match up with Utah.

If the Rockets win at Dallas and Portland beats Denver, the Rockets get the second seed.
