all purpose flour that was previously opened and had an expiration date in early 2014. I didn't check the date thinking it wasn't that old. It was also a recipe using baking powder as I have no yeast. And, I used skim milk that was a little off (sour).

Then, I fried an egg and a piece of sausage. And, made a breakfast sandwich with the bread....which I then ate. The bread smelled kind of gross but I ate it anyway. The dog ate the piece of bread I gave her.

Anyway, I feel kind of gross right about now. I feel a little light-headed and my lower left jaw felt like it was tingling. Maybe just my imagination?

I will survive. But, damn...that was some old flour considering it is only considered good 6 - 8 months past the expiration date. I threw the bread and flour in the garbage. It's too bad because the loaf of bread looked and cut nice as a sandwich bread.

I'm going to make the recipe again when I get some new milk and with new bread flour. And, see how much better it is. The bread didn't smell like bread. But, I ate some of it anyway. Bad idea. I want my bread to smell like bread...right? This bread smelled like the inside of a shoe kind of.

    That's my story. Yuck.

What are doing with 2014 flour in July 2020? You should have learned that along with everyone else quarantine baking in April.

One time when I was very hungry and had literally zero dollars to my name, I found an old pot pie stuffed in the back of my mini fridge with no memory of putting it in there. I microwaved it and realized that there was a lot of mold on one side...

... but the other side looked fine. I took a bite. Big mistake.

Also another time I ate some sandwich meat that was WAY expired. I thought it was like a southwest/spicy meat but it was actually rancid. Took a few bites before I wised up.

    I am a smart man.

the flour was probably ok but it was the sour milk that ruined it.

the milk was only...3 days...past the expiration date. It smelled off when I opened the gallon jug but then I poured out some of it and it didn’t smell so I thought it would be alright? You may be right. F-king milk sometimes last at least a week or two past the expiration date but, lately, it’s been going bad earlier. They may be repackaging old milk? ;)

I’ve also got some really old Jasmine rice and some two year old brown rice in my pantry. It’s mainly there for show! I’ve also got this really old can of Hormel tamales. Two plus decade old rice and tamales for dinner. What could go wrong?

Milk should stay as far back as it can go in the fridge. The colder it is, the longer it lasts. Opening a jug of milk and smelling it, doesnt really accurately tell if its spoiled, as youre just smelling the crusty crap of the ring. If it didnt taste bad when you tried it, it was probably okay. Maybe its just your baking skills... Maybe they suck.

If you got some old Aunt Jemima lurking back there, its probably a collectors item now.

I once ate a 3 day old taco bell 5 layer burrito that traveled in a bag in the bed of my truck from Texas to Colorado. I was fine. Stomach of steel baby. Now, maybe not so much.

I’M A GOOD BAKER! Besides, I followed a recipe that was highly rated. Ah...it was probably the flour.

There's a ton of YouTube videos of people eating stuff way older than that, btw. The videos were so popular that they made a show about it on the History channel :

There's a lot of bog butter that's buried in Ireland from centuries/millenia ago that's apparently "theoretically" still edible. Maybe you could put some on your bread next time? :D :
