I'd be okay to sign Diaz again. He's pretty valuable as a utility guy. If this year has taught me anything it's that I don't like our depth being exposed (cough robel, Wilson, )
Hard Pass. I’d rather develop Yordan there, move Tucker to 1B or sign a true 1B before considering Diaz. I want Diaz primarily as a utility guy and stop gap like he is now.
Yordan at 1st base!? One of the best RFs in baseball at 1st base? Diaz is good enough to be though of as an everyday player and can actually play the infield.
The fact that Yordan has gotten 0 reps at 1B—both in the minors and Spring Training—is pretty telling that our FO for whatever reason does not view him as an option there. I’m not sure why because on paper it seems to make sense, but I think the writings on the wall that Yordan is going to be limited to DH/RF reps for the foreseeable future. As for Diaz, it’ll be interesting to see how much Click values him, as he was inherited under Luhnow’s regime. I don’t think that’s dispositive, but is a interesting wrinkle in whether we keep him and/or what Click has him valued at.
Easy, there. I really like Diaz, but Chris Taylor is pretty easily a better/more versatile utility guy.
Let me clarify, a utility player that isn't in the lineup everyday. Taylor routinely gets 600 at bats a year. Diaz is lucky to get half of that. We are very lucky to have him.
