You DO realize he was a 20/10 player before he got hurt and was never the same after that right? That is NOT a disappointment. Sampson was phenomenal until he got hurt.

He also came into the league at 23.

The problem we have is younger fans read the cliff notes version of NBA/Rockets history.
For those who actually saw him play during that era they have a much better context of how he was as a player.

    Younger fans don't understand.

    1. Teams didn't care about the players medically. you didn't break a bone , you play.
    2. You weren't playing against Mozgoffs, you were playing against Kareems and Hakeems.
    3. His skillset was well ahead of his time. Big men weren't big play makers.

you were correct, he had a bad injury and kept playing cause the medical staff back in the day were not as advanced and did not care.
that caused him to have more injuries.
we have 200 million dollar players now, if someone has a broken nail, he will DNP the next day.

Also, Fans who NEVER SAW THE ROCKETS GO TO THE FINALS, shouldn't really criticize an ALL STAR ROCKET who was the HERO who put us in the FINALS.

1995 was the last time the Rockets went to the Finals. Ralph and Dream took us there in 86.

Ralph And Dream were the Twin Towers.

Exact. His first three seasons were:

    21 ppg, 11 rpg, 2 bpg
    22 ppg, 10 rpg, 2 bpg
    19 ppg, 11 rpg, 2 bpg

Those are HOF numbers IN HIS FIRST THREE seasons. He was the ASG MVP and ALL NBA second team in his second season. Don't forget he accomplished all these during the golden era of big men, playing against a bunch of future HOF centers and PFs.

And then he got injured. Who knows what kind of career he would have if he was healthy.

Sure, he did not really lived up to the "Player of the Century" billing. But who could? He was a bona fide HOF player in the making right from the start.

By his second year, Ralph was basically the player Knicks fans hope Porzingis might turn into. Imagine him in today's NBA, shooting threes and yamming on fools as a 7'4" stretch-4.

Ralph was unique, but not as unique as Porzingis. That kid's ceiling is much higher. If he truly maximizes his potential he can become one of the greats. He's already a dominant force on the defensive end according to the advanced stats.

Ralph was before his time. He was a 7'4 Kevin Garnett before Garnett finished second grade. He could dribble the ball like a guard and block shots and rebound like a classic center.

There are plenty of big men who can do what Porzi does, maybe not as good all around. But Porzi's skills aren't that special in today's game. He just has a good collection of repertoire that sets him apart.

    Ralph is Michael Jackson
    Prozingiz is Jason Derulo

One is an icon, and one is popular with the kids

This type of stuff by a 7'3 guy is unprecedented:

    Lol no it's not

Embiid's handle is better than Porzingis anyway.

Yes! I can see Draymond getting so irritated that he can't score over Qi, that He starts kicking Qi and others on the balls

by defeated the defending champions on a last second shot

I saw a bunch of Summer League players score on Qi, so I think the Vipers is a good place for him to be now.

Embiid is 7'1, not 7'3. And his handle most certainly is not better than Porzingis.

You can easily tell who the people are that have actually sat down and watched 50 or so Ralph Sampson games. His first few seasons as a Rocket were just remarkable. We basically drafted a guy that was schooling Kareem Abdul Jabbar as a rookie.

Porzingis is a jack of many trades, but not dominant at anything. He's much closer to Andrei Kirilenko than any of the all time greats. You're basically giving him a bonus for his height rather than judging his actual on court performance, which I admit is also impressive. His two extra inches of height over Embiid don't really matter when Embiid schools him in all the categories he's supposed to be good at: shooting, rim protection, post moves, and rebounding.
