Here's the deal. It's a four-team trade between HOU-CHI-WASH-CLEV. We get Mihm, Jahidi White, Hubert Davis & Tyrone Nesby while loosing only Walt Williams and Kelvin Cato. Of course we'd probably have to through in a draft pick or two, but I really like this team. I'll post this and come back w/line-up and more analysis later. I know this is somewhat our dream deal to rid ourselves of Cato and Wiz, plus get a couple of decent 5 prospects, a back-up shooting guard, and another forward. We take on add'l contracts, but rid also of Cato's! LMK what you think about this trade. CD if you're out there could you please pull this one off... Houston trades: Walt Williams $5,000,000 to Washington HOU trades: Kelvin Cato $6,048,000 to Chicago TOTAL: $11,048,000 CLEV trades: Chris Mihm $2,067,870 to Houston trades: Bimbo Coles $2,475,000 to Washington TOTAL: $4,542,870 WASH trades: Jahidi White $4,413,375 to Houston trades: Tyrone Nesby $3,260,000 to Houston trades: Hubert Davis $2,368,421 to Houston TOTAL: $10,041,796 CHI trades: Ron Artest $1,241,760 to Washington trades: Brad Miller $4,400,000 to Cleveland (plus Trade Kicker $690,000) TOTAL: $5,641,760 TRADE ACCEPTED Due to all teams being under the cap, the 15% trade rule is not invoked. No team had to be no more than 115% plus $100,000 of the salary given out for the trade to be accepted. This trade satisfies the provisions of the Collective Bargaining Agreement. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
No way in hell this happens Cleveland gets Brad Miller eh? I don't see why any team other than Houston would want to do this deal. Maybe Washington.

Cisco, CLEV has a logjam, they move 2 and pick-up one contract (a decent rebounder) that expires at the end of the year. They are way over the cap and this helps clear some room next year. WASH doesn't want Jahidi, don't need Hubert, and Nesby ain't gonna play much. They p/u Wiz a former Maryland star to help ticket sales and free up cap room next year. Artest intrigues MJ because he cracked his ribs. Bimbo gives WASH a solid, vet PG to back-up Whitney. CHI gets rid of Artest (apparently Krause has wanted too), moves Miller who they never were really thrilled with and p/u a potential defensive stud (LOL) if his ex-college coach can motivate him. HOU adds toughness in Jahidi, potential in Mihm (+ Texan), solid b/u 2, and decent b/u 2/3 in Nesby. A lot of teams have excess players and are over the cap, some things could break loose shortly. Why not this?
Shark44: Who are the current Rockets you would be dropping? CD says we don't have a roster spot for Marc Jackson, yet you have us picking up two extra players (4-2)? Who would be on your final Rocket roster? No Langhi. No TMo. No Collier. Who?
This trade is RIDICULOUSLY in our favor! We give up two cap killers we don't even want and get 2 excellent (compared to a lot of others) young centers, an excellent 3-point shooter (even more valuable with zone), and an atheletic young swingman. Washington is the only other team that MIGHT do this trade. IF they really would trade White for Walt straight up, then that + Nesby and Davis for Coles and Artest would be even better for them. Chicago and Cleveland on the other hand, say hell no. Chicago gives up a young defensive stud with a pretty good all-around game and an above average center, for a lazy center with an albatross contract. Cleveland is not trying to trade Mihm. There are way to many pipe dream trades involving us getting Mihm (usually trading players like Walt and Langhi for him). Why in the world would Cleveland trade Mihm AND Coles for Brad Miller? Mihm will be a good center in this league for many years and has already shown a lot of skill in just 1 season.
Rich, I'd put Collier on IR and give him time to rehab on work on his game. He'd benefit working with the new guys. I do the same with TMo, he just didn't seem to be ready in the one summer game I saw. He needs to rebuild his confidence and being around Steve should help. If we have injuries, obviously that would change this plan.
SF3, If Mihm is really there 5 or even 4 of the future, then why did they draft a center #8 and trade for a proven vet PF? They are around $17m over cap, don't think their owner is gonna want to pay for all those guys for very long. You don't think the Rice trade was RIDICULOUSLY in our favor? Rice, KH, 1st, 2nd, & cash for a b/u 2...C'MON!!! My wife and I have both had the foot problem Rice has and its recoverable with treatment...Lord knows he can afford better treatment than I got...although the ultrasound girl was really cute
Why does Cleveland want to get rid of Mihm? They get rid of two relatively small contracts, that doesn't help them that much. I'm sure they could do much better in trade for Mihm rather than just giving him away. You say Cleveland has a logjam at center? Well Chicago has even moreso of one, no? Why would they trade Miller + Artest for Cato?
Diop is raw and the biggest project of the four lottery selected high-schoolers in the draft. He won't be playing lots of minutes this season and might not develop for another 3 or 4 seasons. With Diop developing and Ilgauskas always injured, Mihm probably is their 5 or 4 of the future. Hill is a proven vet, there to provide veteran leadership, tough play and rebounding. He could also be there to help teach Diop, why else would they have wanted Dream? The vet that he is, Hill won't be around for too long and is not in Clevelands future plans. Their future plans will be a core of Diop, Mihm and Miller. I'm sure they would like to get rid of some contracts, but Mihm and Coles don't even have big contracts. I'm sure there are some other guys they would much rather move. I thought the Rice trade was good for us, but it was also good for Dallas as well. Dallas got rid of Howard Eisley's long and large contract which they don't even need with their WAY too many point guards (plus Tim Hardaway probably too). NY's GM is just a total idiot, so he probably liked the trade for them. This is the same guy that signed Houston for over $100 million, signed Longley for $6 million per season, signed Weatherspoon and LJ for large contracts, signed Rice for his current contract etc...this trade IMO was bad for NY taking on two former Jazz roleplayers' large 6-7 year contracts.
SF3, If Ilgauskas is healthly (realize that's big if), he easily fits as their starting 5 and allows Diop to be groomed slowly with T. Hill teaching him how to cheat at poker. Your logic is sound and you're probably right, but I don't think they'll keep them all. Ilgauskas' $11m + contract solidifies his position. Diop is the future, arguably 3-4 years away. Yes, they would love to move Wesley Person, but at $6m they probably won't find any takers. Agree, NY GMs an idiot, but Krause plays that role well also. MJ wants to clean house and build a championship team from scratch, he needs some cap room for next year and could market Wiz to Maryland fans. Crisco, Only way Krause makes this deal is if he thinks his coach can revive Cato and make it look like a great deal. Miller and Artest are really part of their rebuilding plans from what I've read.
AWWWW HELLL NAW!!!!! No way were takin Cato. YOu gotta be on something my friend.......PLEASE NEVER MENTION THIS AGAIN! Your simple thinking and conjuring up of trades are making me want to vomit......and then keep goin til I can clear my mind and stomach ......please......no more.....I beg of you......never mention "Cato" and "Chicago" in the same sentence again..........EVER. Thank You. -This has been a message brought to you by the Society Troopers Opressing Players of Crappy Attitudes Today Orever (S.T.O.P. C.A.T.O.) PS: Makes no sense but looks cool.
Shark: it would be nice if this could happen, but I think a team would have to be as desperate as the Knicks were in getting rid of Rice in wanting to obtain Cato. Also, this may be pretty naive of me to ask this: But can you put anybody on the IR even if they don't have an injury??
Well technically I don't think you can, but teams do it all the time by simply making up some injury like sore back or some other minor injury and then the player can go on the IR. I believe that's how it works.
Three words: Cato is untradeable... Three more: ... at this point. We're stuck with him until December until the earliest possible, and likely much longer than that. Try to make the best of it...
Mihn and Jahidi we can use but Davis and Nesby? I don't know...unless we can ship them out after Walt and Cato then all it does is create a logjam in the backcourt... as much as i want Cato out as the next person...i am resigned to seeing the $42 mil no show as the starting center for Houston come season 2002-3.
OK Team, I realize that the probability of this trade happening are low, however, if we returned the 1st pick CHI owes us and gave CLEV a 1st and 2nd round choice, then this deal has possibilities. Cato untradeable? No one is untradeable. There is always a sucker or I mean customer for everyone. The customer just has to believe that what he is obtaining is of value...either real or perceived. Cato has value, if he applied himself, probably more than Marc Jackson, Jelani McCoy, and any other market available center. Rice was untradeable to some.
