Hey all, got a new vid out today looking at Eric Gordon and how he can get back to his best this season. It’s a film study looking at some of what Dallas ran, as well as some of the plays D’Antoni had in the 16/17 playbook. I started this earlier in the week and highlighted the Spain pick n roll which the Rockets brought back last night - so hopefully well worth a watch!
I'm all for this, hoping Silas successfully unleashes EGo for an upcoming positive trade. After 2 year slump, need to boost his value. A LOT.
Silas will unleash EG I have no doubt. been saying since Silas was hired! also, if you guys watched the video dont just like the post, give this dude a like on the youtubes too.
Gordon averaged over 35 touches per game last year playing with Harden and Russ, I really don't expect him to cut touches in half this year, especially if Harden is gone.
The decline of Spain PnR was not because of MDA or even Harden, but because of CP3 then Russ. EGo's favorite spots and favorite plays were also favorites for CP3 and later Russ. I am curious to see if EGo is willing to take more corner 3's because that spot limits his ability to put ball on floor and attack, at top of key he can go either side but baseline his options will be more limited.
I meant shots attempted doe not how much he really touches the basketball. If he really shot 35 shots a game, then I was missing sth. Figuratively.
LOL Careful what you wish for. Even EGo needs to be careful for what he wishes for. EGo used to play with AD and some pretty talented Pelican teams before he rejuvenated his career with the Rockets. He was younger, more explosive, more ball dominant and was 2nd scoring option back then too.
Yes, bring back the beautiful screens and movement. Maximize everyone's talents, not just one guy's. Great analysis.
Really good analysis and awesome video. I completely forgot about those plays the Rockets use to run under MDA the first year. Thanks for the breakdown,
I am yet about to watch this video but Gordon was always good and unleashed when being serious about driving and not just settling for 35 footers ... imho its more mental with him or question of health cause driving game requires of you to be healthy
They also ran the plays MDA second and parts of 3rd season as well. Rockets went primarily to ISO due to need, not want. CP3, EGo, Capela and most of the rotation were injured for most of that 3rd season, remember?
Get Eric Gordon the ball where he has the most success shooting the three. What a concept! Yet D’Antoni’s offense couldn’t manage to do it consistently the last few seasons. Coach Silas, as you point out @foggy94, has an offense that should get Eric the ball in the spots at the top of the perimeter where he excels. Very nice post. Look forward to more and thanks.
Yes, you are correct and I due remember the unguardable tour which was amazing from Harden. When I first realize we started to ISO heavy was back in the 2017-2018 season and we were on a winning streak. Blazers was kicking our ass the entire night and then Dame tweaked his ankle. Once Dame got back in the game, CP3 and Harden started killing Dame every possession. It was beautiful to see and of course we ISO on Curry during the playoffs which I was okay with as well. It would have been nice to have more offensive options during the season but you right when the players went down Harden did his thing.
Everything sounds more luxurious and intelligent with an English accent. I suggest everyone listen whilst drinking a spot o' tea. Thanks for the video. Gordon was launching bombs from deep (at least 26+ feet) in the first pre-season game, and at least a few I remember were from the top of the key, so even under Silas, it seems he has the green light. It looked like everybody and their mother had the green light to jack them up for that matter.
We aren’t going to get even value for him in trade with his contract extension. He not my first or even second pick to be on the team but his here so why not play him. IF he plays defense and just keeps his man honest on offense, it’s a win on most nights. Third opinion like he was in NO is a perfect fit here, too, 14 to 17 points a night. His defense is good and offense isn’t bad. As long as we aren’t in a position depending on him to do more than this, we’ll be successful.
