Carl Landry is on the last year of his contract worth $3 million and I believe he will be an UFA next summer. I know the entire board knows what Landry is capable of doing on the court and we might have a good chance to signing him because he used to play here. How much do you think Carl Landry is worth? And do you believe the Rockets have a chance on signing him? I believe he is worth at least $10-$12 million. He is young and he is in his prime. As well as he always gives 100% when he is on the court. (This is my first thread, if this belongs in the NBA Dish section, please move!)
Well you're asking a question with incomplete data. Next season has to be played, wherein you will have more evidence as to Carl's production and improvement or regression. That said, I think some team might be foolish enough to pay him $8-10MM/yr. In my estimation, though he's worth $6-8MM. Carl is a specialist. He's capable of injecting instant post offense and energy and that is a very valuable asset. However, he has not displayed the ability to be a franchise cornerstone type of player. He, as is, grades as a superior role player, and I don't believe in paying those kind of guys large, $10MM+ contracts.
You cant be serious on the Max right?? i put it just to play around but i dont think he is worth even close to 10~12 Million...he put up the same numbers as a starter as he did when he came off our bench. When he hits the market he will have roughly a year and a half of starter stats. the only way he POSSIBLY gets the max is if he throws down 30 and 12 a game and wins MVP! I would LOVE to sign him again but im sure he would get a starters offer next year...and i dont think he would want to go back to a 6th man rotation player..
i think 6-8 is fair......9 if he's lucky. That being said.....don't expect to see Landry suiting up for the Rockets anytime soon. P.S We are "not about to get Bosh". It is a longshot at best.
sorry for not making it clearer. If he was contributing exactly what he was doing when he was here and for the Kings
$8-12M? lol. not a chance. the only teams who have that kind of money are teams who are under the cap. all of those teams are rebuilding. who will want to spend most of their cap space on a role player? he's not the type you rebuild around. i love landry as much as the next rocket fan, but you have to be realistic. yes he can score, but he's undersized, he is a poor rebounder and poor defender. he's a great 6th man, and well worth the MLE, but more than that is overpaying.
Slightly above average role player, lower half starter? Young enough to get some years out of. What's Ariza make?
Met Carl at Frys. He wasnt nice. I told him I knew him. Obviously I know him from Rockets. He was confused because he didnt know me. He should know better than that since he is famous and I should have been given a autograph or some free tickets or even a ride in the parking lot in his car for a test spin. He told a worker I was following him. I was but so what. Thats the price you pay for being famous. I want my autograph. Needless to say, I bet if it was Kevin Martin at Frys I would have been given a chance to take a picture and maybe go out to dinner.
So Carl is an a-hole because he wasn't friendly with a complete stranger coming up to him in public claiming that he knew him..but not saying where from and then this stranger followed him outside of the store....still w/o identifying himself or where he knew Carl from. Yea bro....put yourself in Carl's shoes. That's just damn creepy. I would do the same thing in his position. Too many weirdos out there. How was he supposed to know that you were following him so that you could get a hold of one of his loved ones? If you approach Kevin Martin in the same way, you should be surprised if you get the same response. LOL Brian Chapman = the creepy fan guy
Landry's a career 6th man or role player and Morey knew that when he traded him. His defense is average, his rebounding is horrible for a PF, and he's not going to be that MUCH better offensively as he is right now. In other words, Morey bought low and sold high. Don't get me wrong--in non-starter minutes, his production and scoring is amazing. I thought it could have translated over if/when he became a starter but it didn't when he went from Rockets 6th man to Sacramento starter. This wasn't a loaded Sac-Town team either: Thompson was out, Hawes was in-and-out of the starting lineup, Nocioni was inconsistent, etc. Landry had the opportunity to increase his production but to get TEN more minutes and only increase your scoring by 2 points and add only one more rebound??
I will make a $10 TipJar bet that Landry will not average 10 rebounds a game next season..or the season after that...or the season after that...or the season after that...
This team needs stars not good/solid players. We're going end up paying Landry $8 million dollars to play 20-25 minutes a game with this team.
