I know he always had clutch ability and scoring ability. But how is he playing so well these days with KG. Hes easily a Top 5 PG the way hes playing this season. Would you say hes better than Francis? Or is he just lucky to be with KG? Has he always been this good, just never had this good of a situation where can take as many shots as he wants without worrying about missing - having Kg and all? Is this a fluke year or what?
He's not lucky, he's smart. He knows how to take advantage of teams double teaming KG, and sometimes Spree.
This is his best year shooting (48FG%/39FG%3pt). But he's always been a excellent guard. Of course, playing with KG helps him win games. But he's not just a role player. He's a main weapon on that team. His job is not only to get assist, but also to take over games. Don't think that just because he's with KG that he's "become good." No, he's that good by himself. Just ask the Rockets players at Westside Tennis Club and Fonde Rec Center. His stats were very good at NJ too (46-47FG%/7APG). Although, of the benifits of playing with KG (post player) in Minnesota is that his 3 pointer percentage has improved; open shots after thowing it in to the post! He hits open shots too. That's not always the case for many players. I love him because he's an old school player. That's why they always talk about his mid-range shot (15-18 ft). The guy can hit from anywhere from the court. Sam was never "afraid" or "scared" of taking the big shot. So, no. He doesn't "worry about missing," regardless of who he's playing with.
Cassell was the best PG this season period. Better than Francis, better than Kidd, better than Bibby, and better than Nash. He can shoot lights out, he sets up his teammates well, and he's clutch. He has only one weakness and that is defense that is why he does so well with dominant big man who can help him out on D.
And how about our beloved Robert Horry?!?!....still waking up in the post season to become the X factor, clutch D and shooting 3's. I say San Antonio wins it all this year!
simple..... the guy knows how to create space. He understands how & when to change pace & how all players on the court will react if he takes a couple of steps this way or that way. Its called floor generalship.
