So far, we've got a pair of earth-shaking moves: waived Jones and added Lamb I'm curious what CF thinks will be done between now and the deadline.
If you say fire sale....then well, I have to imagine he's on the trade block too as other GMs covet him as well.
Honestly they'd be foolish not to listen. I doubt they'll find a return that can surpass keeping a player of his quality on that contract for the next few years, but if somebody is willing to give you a few draft picks for a 25 year old you picked up out of Australia then you better at least listen to them and consider it.
Honestly....I might just take one first round pick from this draft. If we are gonna be bad the next three years(well maybe 2). We are wasting Tate anyways. I guess it all just depends. If we dont move him, thats fine too. I like him. But I admit I have very little attachment to any new player on this team as of now.
Right. And by the time we are hopefully competing he will no longer be on this team friendly deal. He's either eating up a healthy chunk of our salary cap or he's gone.
He's not listed as an option...unpopular opinion alert but...am I the only one curious what Rockets could get for Christian Wood? I know, I know, he's the one bright spot, but hear me out: After this year he is owed $13.6M and $14.3M over the next two years. He has clearly outplayed his contract and worth much more than his deal. However, if he continues on this trajectory, after two years he will go from underpaid to properly paid (or overpaid) on his next contract. If the Rockets have a fire sale and start rebuilding, the odds they can put together a good team in the next two years are very low. Christian Wood's production to salary ratio would be more valuable to a contending team than a rebuilding team. I'm not saying give him away, but if a playoff team is willing to pay, why would he be untouchable? My dark horse idea: Wood, Tucker, and any combo of nwaba, brown, house, (and exum to make salary match if necessary) to golden state for Oubre's expiring, and one of Wiseman or the Minny pick. Not sure which Rockets would prefer or which GS would want to hold on to, but you see the idea. Would you give up Wood for a high lottery pick or last year's high lottery pick? I think so. Would GS? Wiseman has a good chance of eclipsing Wood so it'd be hard, but if Wood comes back healthy (which he should) he is definitely an upgrade for GS this season, a perfect fit next to Curry and Draymond. On the other hand he's young enough they could reason they haven't completely mortgaged their future.
No point in keeping Wood if we selling Wall, Eric Gordon, Tate......wasting Christian Wood's talent in last place Houston is not what I'm all about!! Just saying !!
I think we're in a good place in that we're selling and listening to bids for our role players but we're not desperate. Even if we retain every one of these guys I think we still have a 50/50 chance of keeping our pick.
Wood chose Rockets in FA. It would set some really bad precedent to sell him off after he made a commitment to the Rockets. I know all of you are in sell mode but I hope Rockets FO is not be this shortsighted on young players like Wood and Tate who actually chose to be Rockets when they had other options.
