I am guessing how much you make have a strong influence on how your stand on political issues for the most part (abortion being one major exception to the rule). Here is the chart of median incomes for all US states, it would be interesting to see the corelation between income and political leanings.

Rockefeller Republicans - were moderate or liberal on domestic and social policies. They typically favored New Deal programs, welfare, and civil rights—usually promising to run them more efficiently than the Democrats. They were strong supporters of big business. In fiscal policy they favored balanced budgets and relatively high tax levels to keep the budget balanced. They sought long-term economic growth through entrepreneurships, not tax cuts. In state politics, they were strong supporters of state colleges and universities, low tuition, and large research budgets. The favored infrastructure improvements, such as highway projects.

In foreign policy, Rockefeller Republicans were internationalists, and anti-Communists. They felt the best way to counter Communism was sponsoring economic growth (through foreign aid), maintaining a strong military, and keeping close ties to NATO. with the moderates

My views are possibly closest to being a Rockfeller Republican with a few key differences in international politics. While lately I've been over the state median I was well below it a few years back when business was terrible and depending on how things go this year I could be well above it, well below it or at it. My political views though have been evolving for a while but haven't radically changed since about 10 years ago.

I suspect adult internet users are still disproportionately college-educated, which still means higher income; at least until the 60% of high school grads now attending college actually graduate at a reasonable rate, and make Bachelor's Degrees as prevalent, and meaningless, as GEDs.

Not trying to be picky, but when doing these polls, please always add a category for "Independent". While I'm definitely not a liberal or conservative, moderate is not a good label for me either. Moderate (IMO) is someone who takes the middle of the road much of the time.

Currently there have been 4 conservative voters and 30 liberals or moderates.

Any more discussion about balance on this board can be put to rest right now. This board is incredibly one-sided - a bunch of libs

I suspect some people self identify as something different than others identify them as. I voted for one of the liberal options, though I doubt many would put me in that group on this board.

If George Bush weren't such a catastrophic disaster, the poll would show more balance. Also, take this poll closer to election time after the Republican hatchet brigades slice the pathetic Democrats to shreds during Autumn and the results will be more balanced.

Where texxx is concerned a third of the country consitutes the middle and the other two thirds constitute the fringe. If the people that make up one third of the country don't make up fifty percent of the board, the board is biased. (Like the country is. But don't tell texxx that. His head might explode if he ever figured out that the lunatic radical fringe comprised the majority of the country and that the majority he imagined was actually in the extreme minority.)

Just because you define anyone left of Rush Limbaugh "liberal" does not make it true.

Sad, conservatives own the state of texas, they have the most watched news network, they own all three branches of the government, and they still complain. You guys are worse whiners than the liberals because you whine when you own everything. There is nothing left to own and you guys still complain about liberals, that's just sad.

Preach on Brother! You said it all. Conservatives $%#^% about how libs. are screwing everything up when they control it all.

Although to say I'm anything other that liberal would be a reach, I have never had a problem with some conservative ideas. It wasn't until this administration that my heels truly dug in. It's upsetting to me and I hope that once this fanatical form of "social conservativism’" ends my slight conservative leaning will return.
