It's also because we just shoot more 3s than other teams, and threes are worth more points. You hear our announcers joke about it a lot, but it really does come down to 3 > 2. Look at this example Team A shoots 37/80 on 2 pointers, shoots 6/15 from 3. That's 45% fg, 46% from 2 and 40% from 3. These are great shooting percentages! That's 92 points for team A. Team B shoots 21/50 on 2 pointers, shoots 17/45 from 3. That's 40% fg, 42% from 2 and 37% from 3. That's not so great. But wait, that's 93 points for team B. Team B here shot worse on 2 pointers, worse on 3 pointers, worse on overall field goals, and still scored more points. That's why the Rockets play the way they do, and that's a big reason why we beat teams when it looks like we are shooting worse than they are.
I believe we will need Game 3 Ego in nearly every game against the Warriors. Harden and Chris will have their hands full from start to finish. Let's hope we can beat the Jazz in Game 5.
If you look at the stats the one thing they are doing better than all the other teams is they are not turning the ball over. They have the best TOV% rate in the league. They average about 6 more shots than their opponent. So even if they shoot the same percentage as their opponent they will win. Also their free throw defense is very good. The opponents are only shooting 70% against them.
If you have the best shooting guard and point guard and a versatile solid small forward who can create like Ariza, your advantage should be ball handling.
This will probably the lineup that gets the most minutes against GSW assuming we get there. Sub out Luc for EG will also get a lot of run.
Why is our 3 point shooting so horrible. Really disappointed at how hard Gordon fell off with his shot, might as well be anyone out there chucking at the rim right now.
I think its actually not that much of a mystery, we win because we take more shots by a significant margin: For the 4 games vs. Utah so far: FGA - Hou 351, Uta 326 3PA - Hou 143, Uta 112 FTA - Hou 88, Uta 82 With the exception of FTA in Game 4, Houston has had more FGA, 3PA and FTA in each game than Utah. We've done this consistently all year. You can shoot a lower percentage and still win if you shoot significantly more shots. You get more shots by limiting turnovers and getting more more fouls and offensive boards on offense and by forcing turnovers, blocked shots and limiting fouls and offensive boards on defense. The rockets have excelled at almost all of these secondary stats all season. The Rockets do the little things well and even when they shoot below average to average they usually win. When they shoot above average, they destroy opponents.
Basically! In addition, we take higher percentage shots due to CP3 and harden controlling the offense. More possessions leads to more shots while forcing turnovers on the other end.
I'm not sure I understand what you mean. How is it a mirage if the formula to our success has been laid out in such simple terms? We've won 72 games so far this season, with a chance of upping that to 81 games. I think at this point, it's safe to say we are what we are. No smoke, no mirrors, no mirages. We're just a team that takes really good care of the basketball, defends when they have to, and gets opportune offensive rebounds......oh yeah, and barrages you to death with 3 pointers and high percentage layups, dunks, and CP3 midrange shots.
Much to the shock of @basketballholic ... Capela is averaging 4.4 offensive rebounds per game... There's your answer.
but that's not really the reason, but rather a result. Why are we shooting more shots? It's not like other NBA teams are afraid to shoot.
