Yeah, TF isn't playing around. They have a sizable advantage over virtually every other non P-5 program. With their conference, the coaching staff, the finances, the facilities and the support they have; the expectation should be double digit win seasons. Next year they have Oklahoma and Washington State, but they still have a chance at 10 wins.
If Coach Holgorsen was made known available to other schools, I bet most school would be calling for him. UH got this one right.
All I’m saying is that if I had an attractive teenage daughter... she wouldn’t be going to UH after the Holgorsen news broke. Did you ever check your in box from several days before the Holgorsen signing was announced?
My WVU friends say this is not a good omen. Dana is best paired with an OC so he can focus on HC responsibilities, because apparently he struggles with those.
Wonderful write-up by Sam Khan. Always great stuff from him. Even though he's the SEC/A&M assigned writer at ESPN he still makes time to pen high level work about UH because it is his passion. So funny that this all started with a phone call to Jake Spavital about Briles' replacement. The next 3 years are so critical for UH. We're stuck with Dana and he's stuck with us for that time period. When it's over, realignment will be in full swing. There is no room for error here. If we miss, we're basically locked in G5 hell for the foreseeable future.
Also -- that article has this amazing factoid -- Dana Holgerson is 47 and Tom Herman is 43 -- yet they look like they're about 20 years apart. Don't do Redbull, kids.
But you still play UTEP and other bullshit schools. It’s not money. It’s not exposure. It has ZERO to do with those things. In the last 48 years, texas football has one more national title than UH. The arrogance isn’t even justified. UH much better in basketball already and it would HELP the longhorns to put us on their schedule. As for football, Deloss Dodds made bleachergate the excuse but that was a red herring. It’s never ever ever been about exposure.
I liked this line: "When I left here 10 years ago, I left here with a frown," Holgorsen said. "Because one, I was going to Oklahoma, but two, I love this city and this university so much.
