This was partly what I was trying to find out when I posted the thread "Do you want your signifigant other to read the BBS." and from there it seemed like a lot of posters didn't because their persona was very different from what they were in real life and they didn't want their significant others to find that out.
HO! HO! HO! Surely you jest Rocket River! I could never be an online persona! any guesses who that online persona is?
I sugarcoat stuff in the real world: I try to be thoughtful and respectful of others, though I may think poorly of them. If I spoke honestly in the real world, I would have no friends, no job, my family would have nothing to do with me, and I'd probably be in jail. I sugarcoat stuff on the bbs: Again, I try (sometimes unsuccessfully) to be respectful, I don't want to get banned, and if everybody here hated me (and put me on their ignore list) - well, where's the fun in that? (unless you're a troll) Overall, I would say that, in a way, I am a little more honest in the bbs because of the anonymity. My honest feelings are vulgar, prejudiced, harsh, mean, condescending, disrespectful, and bitter. Almost every moment of my life is spent stifling those feelings and searching for positives. -- droxford
What you read is what you get, with one exception.... The biggest(and only) difference is that sometimes I get mad and will post in anger in GARM...I probably wouldnt bother to speak up in person...I would rather walk away and ignore the person.
I'm exactly who I am in real life on the bbs. On the other hand, I have decided that I do not want my significant other reading it. Trust me, I do not make this stuff up. If I did, it would look a whole lot better than it does. It wouldn't be so... pathetic. I guess I just feel that people should be more honest and we could solve a lot of our problems that way.
Im pretty much the same way in person - direct, sarcastic, and very competitive (just a joy to be around)......
I am guessing it is due to the fact that you like to post in haiku - something that no else here does.
