Saw this teaser trailer and thought it deserved a thread. I thought I'd start this thread since I hadn't seen or heard anything about this mini series either. Looks like something similar to "True Detective" in atmosphere and type of show. <iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/Yu-4VjxVWuY" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> (apologies if a thread already exists...I looked but didn't see one)
based on the setup, suspect we will get some sanctimonious preaching about not profiling Muslims The Killing did the same thing and it was eye-rolling
Opening had almost nothing to do with this. Honestly, the premiere was one of the best I have ever seen from an HBO series.
As much as you would like to profile a group of people, it had nothing to do with it. It is a murder mystery. Just because the character happens to be muslim doesn't mean it revolves around some sort of terrorist theme. Stop being a bigot.
You know you're not allowed to have a muslim male on television unless they are a terrorist or Aziz Ansari, right? Nice to see the good reviews from you guys, will definitely check this out.

Watched the first episode last weekend, I thought it was excellent. Can't wait to watch the rest of the series, performances and directions are top notch.
I think it does officially start this Sunday, HBO had put the first episode out early on demand and HBO GO
Why the **** do you have to inject your politics into so many posts? There was nothing in that trailer to prompt that kind of response. Why not try out the show to see if you actually enjoy it before trying to shoehorn it into your political worldview?
hope I'm wrong (first episode was good) but I predict (1) cops/guards will be portrayed as sadist Islamophobes (2) killer will be a rich white male
Not looking like it, remember... Spoiler When the black guy stopped him to say that whole Mustafa bomb thing, there was another black guy with him who looked menacingly towards Naz and the chick as they walked up. Later in the detectives' interview with the black guy, they asked him who he was with, and he said nobody... Me thinks killer will be a poor black male.
of course they will need to go through multiple red herrings until they get to the real killer, that's how these crime series generally work even better if it's a minority, because you will feel bad about yourself for suspecting him they were practically begging you to prejudge the guy, making him seem all menacing
Funny how this is the title right under the hangout and you repeatedly ignore it right? spoiler alert. I accidentally know something about the actors I didn't want to know, which leads to some speculation about #1 Spoiler Box is only in 2 episodes, so I figure he either dies or is taken off the case. that said, these writers are way too good for this to be formulaic. Really enjoyed the first episode. One wrote the novel and screenplay Clockers, which many call the blue print for the Wire. He also was invited to write 5 episodes of The Wire. The other writer wrote Gangs of New York, American Gangster, Awakenings -- Steven Zaillian
