Colbert's show was political satire, so no surprise he sticks to the thing that helped make him a household name.

Kimmel (and John Oliver if you want to include him) is the only one making straight up political statements all the time. Personally I love both.

You first have to make the argument for your claim of it being propaganda then you have to show the tangible negative effects that are allegedly obvious.

You do understand that just because you disagree with a message doesn't mean it's propaganda right?

I blame libs for this, how dare they bring their elitist hollywood members into politics. How dare they elect an actor and a reality TV personality to the office of president. For shame!

Nope, not for me. Political content is irrelevant for me. Popular, mainstream, entertainment shows should not be a political platform regardless of message period.

A few reasons, their audiences tend to be echo chambers so they're "comedy" isn't convincing anybody. It's cheap laughs so the comedy suffers. These entertainment shows are usually funded by large media which has journalistic integrity to maintain. It creates a bigger divide and possible a rival entertainment outlet or even rival POTUS + Twitter. Now we have two groups using entertainment platforms to just hate each other more and each of their echo chambers grow louder and louder, folks really digging in. All of that is literally the definition of propaganda.

For me, now the entertainment sucks (who wants to see a late nigh host cry like a b**** or nfl players protest against discrimination just before they try to kill each other) and both sides hate each other even more. The whole thing just puts me off, don't want any part of it.

Also, you do understand that just because you agree with the message that doesn't mean it's not propaganda right?

They never admit it but he's been a registered Democrat much longer than a registered Republican. Political positions aside, he's basically one of them from a temperament perspective.

Reagan was an odd one too.

I mean, don't get me wrong, Pence was a big Jimmy Carter fan too. In fact, before finding his insane evangelical views Pence was a democrat. Now we pray the gay away, and if necessary electrocute them.

    1. they think they are
    2. and just b/c you think its a good thing does not mean that it is
    3. no they want the old machine so not the same thing. also entertainment dabbling in politics is part of the old machine, that's not new, it's predictable and boring. now ally heads of state going after each other, that's new and exciting for me.

Here is one example of what SG and IP have been talking about.

On the day of Comey firing, Colbert announced the news to his audience and everyone cheered until Colbert reminded everyone that it was a bad thing and then the audience booed. This proves that some people need people like Colbert to tell them how to think. It's sad because these people have influence and can spin any news as they wish

I have been following Seth Meyers advice. Ditto for the others. I guess they figure (and maybe correctly) that those that tune in just to hear them spout rhetoric exceeds those who tune out because they do. It will eventually cost them. What will they do when a Democrat is in office again? They won't tell the jokes...but I won't be watching them then, either, and their market share will drop considerably.

Why can’t the Colbert audience be intellectual giants like the Fox & Friends viewers?
