I have never heard of one. Earlier today I was cruising along my property and out in front of me trotted a white squirrel. It just jogged by before turning and going up a tree to hang out. It was bright white with kind of a smoky tail. Not my picture but it looked like this pic only the tail was a little darker
They apparently skew pretty heavily towards the northern end of their habitat range. There is also a matching black type that skews north as well. Are you in Houston? Never seen one here. Actually never seen one on person, but seen lots of photos and video from much farther north. The typical white squirrel is very distinct from albino and I believe is a whole lot more common. That one is kind of weird looking. The ones I've seen have been entirely white without being albino. That one has the black on top and some brown at the rear. That may be something other than the typical white squirrel. BTW, we have 2 types of squirrel in Houston, as far as I know. Eastern Gray Squirrel, which are small and skittish, and Fox Squirrel, bigger with red bellies and much braver. Pulled this off of google: Both white and black are still Eastern Gray Squirrels.
When I went to UNT there was an albino squirrel that was an unofficial mascot on campus. One day a huge bird came down and grabbed it and killed it in front of a bunch of students.
I'm north of Houston, almost too close to Dallas. I thought it was an albino at first but it had that smoky tail and the eyes looked normal (not red)
You can’t trust white squirrels. We had a couple white squirrels show up on our acreage and within a week they had taken over our yard and had enslaved the brown squirrels.
