I always remember this date because my grandparents eloped on March 1, 1936. They wanted to get hitched on a leap day, but my grandmother couldn't sneak out of the house on February 29, 1936. There was a huge party for them for their 50th anniversary the same day as the sesquicentennial celebration (I was in Texas history that year too). They were really good people. Damn, I miss them.
