I guess you don't listen to George, much? Fan doesn't rhyme with Grande, but it does with Grand, that's why he says it like that in the song.

The first song was sampled ad nauseum for a local Ford marketing campaign a decade ago*. But I'll definitely check out the other two.

*And that's one other thing you've gotta love about living down there: localized marketing campaigns. "It's Rodeo tiiiiime, Houston; and that means it's time for the Tex-ussss Homestyyyle Burger!" "Cingular Wireless has got a deaaal as big as Tex-ussss."

I always remember this date because my grandparents eloped on March 1, 1936. They wanted to get hitched on a leap day, but my grandmother couldn't sneak out of the house on February 29, 1936.

There was a huge party for them for their 50th anniversary the same day as the sesquicentennial celebration (I was in Texas history that year too).

They were really good people. Damn, I miss them.

Uh, even with an "e" at the end, sir, you still pronounce it "Grand". Even if George isn't the one saying it, it's pronounced "Grand", not "Granday." http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rio_Grand <- there's your Rio Grand.

And you used the link for Rio Grand, which is band, not the link for the Rio Grande, which is a river.

Rio is Spanish for “river,” so “Rio Grande River” is a redundancy. Just write “Rio Grande.” Non-Hispanic Americans have traditionally failed to pronounce the final “E” in “Grande”, but they’ve learned to do it to designate the large size of latte, so perhaps it’s time to start saying it the proper Spanish way: “REE-oh GRAHN-day.” Or to be really international we could switch to the Mexican name: “Rio Bravo.”

    gringo

LOL. Thank you for the distinction, sir. Yes, I am. :) Darn Cowgirls' fan don't know nothin'...
That's what I said, sir. Please read my post again: "THERE'S YOUR RIO GRAND" (no E at the end). FAIL on you. :p

And when have I said "Rio Grande River"??? FAIL again.

So if wikiPedia uses "Rio Grande" for the river, they're wrong? George Strait is right? WTF.
